43. A family tragedy prompts gangster Carl "CJ" Johnson to return home, only to find it overrun by crime and corruption, which he must regain control of the streets before it gets even worse.
 44. It's the early 90's. Carl "CJ" Johnson returns to his hometown to attend to his mother's funeral. Upon His return CJ learns of the pitiful state that the grove street gangsters face. CJ must travel throughout the entire state of San Andreas to reclaim his lost gang's honour.
 45. My summary says it all. This game raised the bar so high I'll will be shocked if the bar is raised again within the next 25 years. Of course every game has flaws but this game's flaws are so few and so minor you don't even think about them.

Story: The story is beyond amazing. It involves a street criminal named CJ who has been living in Liberty City for the past 5 years coming home to San Andreas after the death of his mother to find his and his brother's gang, The Grove Street Families ruined by drugs and the assaults made by the rival gang, the Ballas. If I went any further I would have to tell the entire story which would probably take up a few pages in Microsoft Word, it's so big.

Voice Acting: Spectacular! That's the only way I can describe it. Young Maylay voices CJ and does an amazing job brining a vocal emotion to the character which we did not see from Claude in GTA3 or Tommy in Vice City. Mix this with the story and it makes CJ the most complex and probably the best character so far in the entire GTA series. Samuel L. Jackson does a fantastic job voicing Officer Tenpenny the antagonist of the game and an exceedingly corrupt cop. Also we have Chris Penn as Officer Pulaski, in one of his last projects before his death(R.I.P.), Peter Fonda as The Truth, a drug addicted hippy, Faizon Love as Sweet, CJ's big brother, James Woods as a government agent, Charlie Murphy as a pimp involved in a drug crime syndacite, and countless others. You will also see some old characters such as Don Leone with Frank Vincent, Maria Latore by Debi Mazer, Ken Rosenberg, Kent Paul, and to top it off who could forget Catalina and Claude? Gameplay: Okay. Let me just say this now. This is probably the biggest game I've ever played. IT IS HUGE, ENORMOUS, ENDLESS. The game has three cities. San Andreas is based on California and Nevada. Los Santos is based on Los Angeles, San Fierro is based on San Francisco, and Las Venturas is based on Las Vegas. You will easily spend a few days trying to beat all the story missions. But by the time you beat all the story missions you will still only have roughly 49% of game completed. For those going for the famous 100% completion, it will take about two weeks unless you play it nonstop until you get it. Even then it will still take you roughly a week to get to 100%. There are some great things that don't help you get to 100% but still are worth doing. You can upgrade most of your weapons, upgrade your muscle, fat, stamina, lung capacity, respect, sex appeal, cycling skill, motorcycle skill, driving skill, flying skill, you can listen to hours of music on the GTA soundtrack, learn fighting skills, get new hair styles, get tattoos, buy piles of clothing, bet on horses and in casinos, race, fight other gangs for street territory and rob a casino in a grand scheme. Even after getting 100% you will want to start the game over and go through it all over again.

This is alongside Resident Evil 4 as the greatest game ever made. I have never played a game of this magnitude nor have I ever had this much fun playing a video game. Amazing voice acting, great story, not great but passable graphics (but you won't even think about that), great soundtrack, gigantic world, and endless things to do will keep you coming back again and again and again.

11/10 (if that's possible)!
 46. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is still, in comparison with most new games on the market, the most fun game to play EVER!!!

Ever since GTA went 3D with their 3rd instalment, the gaming world has completely changed. Games now sport almost completely interactive virtual realities where you can edit your character to look the way you want them to, make them do whatever you want them to do and practically travel the world in any way you choose.

San Andreas was the forerunner in this gaming revolution where the game itself acted like a free-ride where whatever you did, the game's circumstances would adapt to the player's in-game decisions but what made it so much fun and why this game was a winner; it was a part-parody part-retrospective analysis of a certain era and a mix of popular cultures, mainly the times leading up to the notorious LA race riots and the emergence of violent street gang culture.

Carl "CJ" Johnson comes home upon receiving the news that his mother has been murdered and finds he has to regain the respect of his older brother Sweet after spending five years on hiatus away from the mean streets of Los Santos. He is quickly thrust into a gang war provoked by the 'Rollins Heights Ballaz', 'Grove Street's now dominating rivals. Drug dealers infest the streets, drive-by shootings are rife and even the cops are in on it.

With the help of Sweet's street brothers Ryder and Big Smoke, CJ looks to represent the once untouchable gang but a certain corrupt police officer is intent on entrapping CJ using blackmail to get him to do their dirty work. Uncovering a myriad of betrayals as he tries to survive the streets of Los Santos and being forced to fend for himself when the plan falls apart, CJ takes it upon himself, with the help of a handful of allies, to right every wrong he ever caused and more, but with sometimes either terrible or hilarious consequences.

As briefly as I can, I'll point out what made this game for me. The game was never ending but always enjoyable, with so many missions and story lines and side-challenges to get into, it was like being in an interactive movie franchise. Your character goes from a broke and not too bright weakling to a thuggish but ultimately good hearted and heroic jack of all trades.

It's great going shopping to pimp out CJ with the latest clothes, jewellery and sneakers, pimping out his cars at various garages across the cities, getting him different hairstyles from beards and Afro's to Mohawks, slopes and cornrows. Getting tattoos and getting down the gym for bodybuilding and learning new fight moves. There is so much to learn from shooting skills and unlocking weapons to dating various annoying women to unlock outfits, cars and weapons stashes. Going to driving schools, flying schools and boating schools and buying properties to store your immense catalogue of vehicles from rare sports cars, low riders, motorcycles, tanks, off-road vehicles, helicopters, planes and even bicycles. The things you can do in this game are almost limitless.

The style of the game reeks of classic film references such as 'Boys N The Hood' and 'Menace II Society' but then goes so far out that it just becomes a wacky ride into comic insanity as CJ goes from a virtual LA (Los Santos) to white trash backwoods California and from a virtual San Francisco (San Fierro) to an amazing parody of Las Vegas (Las Venturas).

Easily the greatest thing to top off all that - besides the fun you can have endlessly just riding around causing mayhem day and night in sun, rain, thunder and lightning, sandstorms or fog - is the sheer scale of voice acting talent applied to the roster of characters.

Samuel L. Jackson, Cliff Curtis, James Woods, James Fonda, Ice T, Sean Penn, Danny Dyer, Axl Rose, William Fichtner, Michael Winslow (Jonesy from Police Academy), Ken Foree and Clifton Collins Jr are but a few of the actors thrown into the mix to give a genuine Hollywood film production feel.

Oddly enough though, there hasn't been an equal or a successor since, despite San Andreas showing the way. The other GTA's have lacked that certain cultural charm and ease of playing despite having better graphics and the choices of interaction have lessened too. What's odd is that any character created for any game could have been put in the same environment with an era of their own, the same kind of game-play and an infinitely free-roam environment and it would be a success.

A Marvel MAX Punisher/Rockstar crossover based in a New York State setting GTA-style would be mind blowing. Buying your clothes and accessories from different stores and pimping them out with the white skull etc. Armouring and pimping muscle cars and heavy vehicles to terrorise the streets with. Buying or uncovering caches of different weapons from different eras and upgrading them. Buying safe-houses, training for war, hunting down street thugs and gangsters to punish. A darkly humoured Frank Castle randomly spitting out comments, complaints, insults and threats, stopping off for a burger and walking in on an armed robbery, listening to some opera or sixties rock music on his way to an assassination. Why has no one thought the same of so many possibly amazing concepts?

 48. No. CJ is completely drug-free. There is one mission where he gets a contact high from burning a marijuana plantation but that was unintentional. Although he does drink when he goes to the bars with his girlfriends Michelle and Denise.
