Statement on Deactivating my Twitter

Hola mi amigos,

I have given this message to my good friend RasAGhul to ensure that all of you receive it. Some of you may have seen my twitter account @realDougStewart deactivated today. I was not suspended. This was my choice.

The first question is: why would a prolific tweeter in the thick of a fight walk off of the battlefield? It’s a simple answer with unimportant complexities. So I will spare the latter.

I have been in the fight against QAnon since Dec 2017. Most of that time I’ve spent attempting to rally folks to my side against a potentially dangerous set of ideas. The absence of logic and the immortality of mob rule are contradictory to our peaceful republic. A society that was built around the individual, and their god-given liberties, can not afford to let ideas to the contrary make advances en masse. And any seemingly small victory of theirs is a devastating blow; a loss we will not soon recover from if we’ve learned anything from history.

So when everyone finally came together in protest to this multi-faceted threat I was, and remain, absolutely ecstatic. It was a long time coming. I waited for each one of you to arrive. And it was well-worth the year plus wait.

In this time we’ve learned so much on our quest to prevent this cancer from taking root. We’ve learned that ideological differences can be bridged fairly easily when the threat is immediate. We’ve learned that the driving forces behind this atrociously stupid movement is driven by exactly the type of people you would expect to be at the wheel. And one by one we’ve been able to trip them up and slow down their progression. The danger is having their authoritarian ideals and methods implanted into the psyche of our fellow countrymen. Because eventually, those ideas will settle like wet concrete. Once it cures, and becomes solid, a terrible foundation has been laid.

In regards to the fight itself: Any fight that goes on too long is bound to be a drag. Alinsky would stress this and it’s applicable to both sides. The other “rule” from his famous book was that the fight needed to be fun. And for me, I have both been here too long and couldn’t remain to be fun. Continuing on would mean I am putting at risk the momentum you all have right now.

Your opponent traffics in deception alone. It’s a currency they are rich in. And it must be spent to ensure their ridiculous and dangerous dream. You can take everything from them because they’ve put everything on the line. In contrast, your currency is objective reality and common sense. And you’ve gone in to this with nothing to lose. No quest for fame, no desires to become an established grifter. In this fight, you are invincible. It’s wildly unfair. Good.

It’s the home stretch. And we couldn’t have gotten this far without each and everyone one of you. We’ve so thoroughly dismantled this grifting LARP that it has become a meme in and of itself. This is no small feat. And it will do you well to keep a running checklist of all the victories you’ve had. They’re yours. Keep them close to your heart and be ready to brag. More importantly, remember they are a crucial part of your overall arsenal.
