  1. So that Press Your Luck thing:
  2.
  3. The guy's name was Michael Larson and as Jon said, he did study VHS-recorded episodes of Press Your Luck to effectively game the system so he'd keep landing on one of two squares that gave both money and a spin, allowing him to effectively play infinitely and not letting anyone else have a turn. This went on for a full episode and they had to cut it and bring all the contestants back for a second episode. He got about $102K before passing his spins on the second episode, then later got spins passed to him, where he then got his total up to over $110K, $104K of that was cash.
  4.
  5. But turns out the dude was a gambling addict and it was his undoing.
  6.
  7. He tried doing a lottery which resulted in his winnings getting robbed because he withdrew all of his money (in $1 bills because of how that lottery worked), got involved in an illegal foreign lottery and was on the run until he died in 1999.
  8.
  9. After the episodes he was on, the producers of Press Your Luck had the board changed so the number of randomized patterns increased from 5 to 32, which would make pulling off what Larson did extremely improbable afterwards.
  10.
  11. The 2000s Press Your Luck series, Whammy!, had the two contestants Larson faced come back and they took on Larson's brother, who also won and this was fair and square because the board was programmed to be completely random every time.
  12.
  13. PS: As much as I love game shows, the Whammy on the original Press Your Luck scared me as a child, just felt like bringing that up. XD
