- >"H-hey, Anon?"
- >You looked up from your workbench, pulling your attention away from the headboard you were finishing up.
- >The Princess of Books- er, the Princess of *Friendship*, was staring timidly over the counter of the workbench.
- "What's up, Twi?" You replied over your shoulder, placing your sandpaper back in its drawer.
- >She looked around for a moment, one foreleg rubbing the other in anxiousness.
- >"I, uh, was just wondering if..."
- >There was a lengthy pause, only broken when you turned to her, confused.
- "If...?"
- >"Ifyou'llcomewatchthestarswithme!" The nervous mare blurted out, cheeks burning cherry red.
- >You took a moment to parse out what she had said, the meaning almost lost in the blur of words that hit your eardrums.
- >In the time that took, you watched her expression droop as you had yet to respond.
- >Nope, Sad Sparkle wasn't happening today.
- "Of course I'll come with you. When?"
- >Her face lit up with an almost blinding smile, banishing any disappointment she had been feeling.
- >"This weekend, at the Canterlot Observatory!"
- "I'll be there."
- >You only barely held in a laugh as she turned and half-galloped/half-danced her way home.
- --
- >"C'mon Anon, this way!"
- >Twilight had galloped away as soon as she could when the train came to a stop.
- >She was leading the way only by a small amount, but you lost track of her at least once through the bar-hopping crowds.
- >Now the lavender mare was impatiently trotting in place, waiting on you.
- >The Observatory appeared locked up tight, and a sign hanging on the door said "Closed for maintenance, open soon!"
- "Oh, well that's a shame." You groused. Despite the tickets being on Twilight's bill, they were still expensive.
- >Counter to your expected reaction, the mare simply pulled the door open and ushered you inside.
- >"Quick! Before somepony sees us!" Twilight giggled conspiratorially.
- >You did as she bid, if only because you weren't quite sure if what you were doing was... legal.
- "Uh, Twi, are you sure we should be in here...?"
- >"Uh huh! Princess Celestia told me she would let me have it all to myself tonight," she replied as she moved over to the massive telescope.
- >It was pointed towards the moon, but Twilight was quickly turning it to a small point in the sky.
- "What are we looking at?"
- >"Princess Luna told me there would be some small secret in her sky tonight, and I won't go home until I've found it!"
- >You just laughed, content with letting her take the wheel for a bit.
- >The telescope came to rest, and Twilight took a peek through.
- >"Oh, look!"
- >You did so, and let a small look of wonder spread across your face.
- >No point in hiding it, Twilight was just as mesmerized as you were.
- >The telescope was peering into a dark blue and green nebula.
- >Newly born stars were sparkling like emeralds and sapphires, making the blackness of space more akin to a jewel encrusted cave.
- >The dust was making unique shapes as it passed by the newborns, as it slowly condensed into new stars as you watched.
- "Wow, just... wow. If this is Luna's work, tell her I approve."
- >"I'll be sure to pass the message along. My turn!"
- >Playfully rolling your eyes, you let her take back over.
- >You noticed that almost all of Canterlot was dark, aside from a few bars and the castle itself.
- >Perfect viewing conditions, all things considered.
- >As you were waiting for your turn, a streak across the sky caught your attention.
- >It was quick, and you almost called it a trick on your eyes until another streak slashed the darkness, before it too faded away.
- "A meteor shower...?" You almost whispered, though it still caught your date's attention.
- >"Anon?"
- >You simply pointed towards the sky and waved her over.
- "It's been too long since I've seen a good meteor shower..."
- >"Too long? Why?"
- >You chuckled.
- "I've never had a Lunar Princess to put a show on at will, after all. Besides, I've been... busy."
- >That last bit came out a little more bitter than you intended.
- >"I know what you mean." Twilight replied, just as sullen.
- "Hmm?"
- >Twilight sighed, eyes never leaving the dark sky.
- >"Just stress, I suppose."
- >You hummed in response, then opened the door to the outer observation deck.
- "C'mon, I think we both need this."
- >You sat down on the wooden deck, pulling the mare into your lap as she came near.
- >"A-anon?"
- >You didn't say anything, instead you lightly ran your fingers through her mane and down her back.
- >She shivered, a light pink blush painting her cheeks as you continued your work.
- "Relax, Twi."
- >"Easy for you to say..." she grumbled, though you knew there wasn't any malice in it.
- >A bright, slow moving meteorite lit the sky, side-by-side with a slightly smaller, yet equally bright partner.
- >These two didn't diminish in the least as they paved a path towards the horizon, seemingly escorting one another.
- >The two of you watched them the entire way, mouths slightly agape.
- "Make a wish..." You muttered, and Twilight's ears pivoted towards you.
- >"A wish?"
- "Mmhm. Dunno where it came from, but humans often make wishes on shooting stars."
- >"Oh! Well, I wish for-"
- >You put a finger on her lips, cracking a grin as she tried to move her head away and pouted as she failed.
- "It won't come true if you tell anyone."
- >Her amethyst eyes lit in understanding, and she nodded with a smile as you removed your finger and resumed brushing her mane.
- >"When will it come true?"
- "Depends. Some are impossible, but others... all in due time."
- >"Hm."
- >Her eyes had left the sky, instead landing on your own.
- >Before you could do much of anything, she moved closer and gave you a chaste kiss on the cheek.
- >The light pink blush turned a fiery red, and you couldn't help but laugh a bit.
- "Twi, you missed."
- >"Huh?"
- >You lifted her muzzle and pressed a gentle kiss onto her lips, one she didn't resist.
- >Breaking it after a few short seconds, you let her brain reboot as you returned your gaze to the stars.
- >You hoped she hadn't seen the burning blush adorning your cheeks.
- >The meteor shower stopped slowly after the two bright ones.
- >It seemed as though they were the grand finale for the only two that cared tonight.
- >Now it was just the two of you and the starry skies.
- >"Anon?"
- "Hmm?"
- >"Do you... want to keep seeing each other like this?"
- >You put on a show of thought, scratching your chin and occasionally going "hmm..."
- >Twilight gave a giggle.
- "Of course, my Star."
- >Tension left her body almost immediately as she let out the breath she was holding in.
- >Then her eyes widened just a bit.
- >"Wait, was that...?"
- "It was."
- >An almost radiant smile bloomed on her face, and she leaned in for another kiss.
- >"All in due time, huh?"
- >You returned it just as easily.
- "All in due time."
