- Cavalier Class:
- it sort of has rage, but it conjures up a mount
- what the mount actually IS doesn't matter much, although it's expected to be a horse
- it's a d8 (or maybe d6?) hit die melee-focused class, because when you summon your mount, you gain a bunch of temp hp ala spores druid.
- or maybe the mount shouldn't affect your hp, actually, so you can always have it out?
- yeah, actually, that.
- mount mechanic: speed increases by 10 feet, count as mounted (mainly means you can use a lance), climbing and swimming require 4 feet of movement per 1 foot (2 feet of movement if you have the respective speed), advantage on saving throws against being forcibly moved or knocked prone.
- feature ideas:
- 1st - the mount summoning, expertise except it's only in a single charisma skill
- 2nd - subclass, CD points, fighting style
- 3rd - charge (when you move up to 20 feet in straight line and hit with a melee, another 1d6)
- 4th - ASI
- 5th - extra attack
- 6th - subclass feature
- 7th - some kind of ribbon (maybe you can see through the eyes of animals or something?)
- 8th - ASI
- 9th - charge upgrade (2d6)
- 10th - improve your mount more (normally +10 speed, maybe now it's +20?). maybe when you Charge the fucker must make a str save or be proned?
- 11th - subclass feature (since 11th, big boost - maybe something involving your mount itself attacking, unless i want to make that Wild Court exclusive)
- 12th - ASI
- 13th - ???? give a cool ribbon!!!! i don't know what though
- 14th - charge upgrade (3d6)
- 15th - something something command others
- 16th - ASI
- 17th - last subclass feature
- 18th - last charge upgrade (4d6)
- 19th - ASI
- 20th - ????????? i kind of like the idea of giving a paladin aura for 1 minute as if turning the world around you into your court
- flavor-wise, lean a bit into royalty - sometimes literal (Court of the Crown would be this class's "basic" subclass, which leans into that), but basically means you command reality. Court of the Doomed for a dullahan/ghostrider subclass, Court of the Sea could be fun as a sort of aquaman-esque thing, and then like, Court of the Weavewalker for a 1/3 caster.
- if i keep liking this idea, consider a Court of the Wild subclass, which makes your mount like, feral and vicious, fighting alongside you - effectively, you replace beast companion, but also can ride the companion.
- give it effectively "Channel Divinity Points", probably a number equal to half of its level. or maybe look at that Warden thing for levels? each subclass gives 2 options, which can be upcasted in a way. recharge on short rest?
- Crown: cast *command* at a level equal to the points spent, or give a sort of warlord barb guided-strike thing to a number of allies equal to the points spent
- Dread: definitely one thing with fear, and then maybe something about killing undead? i like the idea of leaning more into "Reaper that ACTUALLY DOES THEIR JOB" rather than "Ow The Edge"
- Sea: give your allies (a lot of em) swimming speed for an hour for like 1 or 2 points, and then maybe something about engulfing waves?
- Weavewalker: cast *detect magic* for 1 point, and then maybe like, get advantage on a save against a spell for 1 point? or maybe 2 points.
- Wild: ????? i don't know???
