“Hey! Leave here at once! Forget this Swordmaster!” Mokomoko’s shocked voice had a layer of urgency to it that took them by surprise.

“What’s wrong? It’s weird that it’s hidden, but it’s just a creepy tower...”

That’s not it at all! Can’t you tell? The dark aura surrounding this place is so thick! Something truly evil lies ahead!”

Tomochika looked around her, but she didn’t feel anything like Mokomoko was describing. Yogiri, however, could sense a general killing intent hovering over the entire area, all but clinging to them.

“Lynel, are you okay?!” Tomochika cried out as their new friend suddenly doubled over and vomited. Looking around, she saw a number of other people in the crowd collapsing and throwing up as well.

“The miasma of evil surrounding us must have gotten to him.”

“But I don’t feel anything...”

“I am protecting you, and I’m sure the boy can handle himself.”

“An evil aura of this strength will have no effect on me, but it seems Lynel isn’t so lucky,” Rick noted. He appeared to be perfectly fine, but it didn’t look like there was anything they could do for their other companion.

As they were trying to take in what was happening around them, Lynel’s body began to glow. Before long:

“Thank goodness. Saved by the Apology Stones again!” he gasped, climbing back to his feet.

“Are you sure you should be wasting those stones on something as basic as throwing up?”

“Well, given how sick I felt, I wasn’t going to be able to move at all without them.”

Tomochika didn’t know the extent of the Apology Stones’ abilities, but they seemed to have given him some sort of resistance to the tower’s dark aura.

“Well, what do we do now? This place seems pretty unhealthy, and Mokomoko did tell us to leave,” she said, turning to Yogiri.

“Yeah, ever since we came through the barrier, there’s been a faint feeling of death around us. It’s almost like this whole area is in the shade.” Still, it wasn’t an urgent threat, and it didn’t feel pressing enough to force them to leave right away. “It seems fine to me for the moment. There’s no immediate danger, at least.”

“Well, this is you we’re talking about, after all. You may be able to protect yourself, but please keep your guard up just in case.”

『おい！ 　 即刻 立ち去れ！ 　 剣聖 など どう でも よい！』 　 一人、 も こも この 驚き だけが 様相 を 異に し て い た。 心底 慌て て いる という 様子 なの だ。 「え、 どう し た の？ 　 確か に びっくり は し た けど、 塔 が ある だけ だ よね？」 『そういう こと では ない！ 　 気付か ん のか！ 　 これ ほどまでの 濃密 な 瘴気 に！ 　 この 先 だ！ 　 邪悪 な 何 かが この 先 に いる！』 　 知 千 佳 が あたり を きょろきょろ と 見回し て いる が、 何 も 感じ ない の だろ う。 　 しかし、 夜霧 は あたり に 漂う、 まとわりつく よう な 殺気 を 感じ取っ て い た。 「お ぼ ぉぉ！」 「ライ ニール さん!?」 　 ライニール が 突然 体 を 折り、 吐き はじめ た。 　 あたり を 見回せ ば 同じ よう に 吐い たり、 倒れ たり し て いる 者 が いる。 『瘴気 に 当て られ た な』 「瘴気？ 　 私 は なんとも ない ん だ けど」 『お 主 は 我が 守っ て おる、 小僧 は 自分 で どう とでも する の だろ う』 「私 は この 程度 の 瘴気 なら 影響 は ない の です が、 ライ ニール さん には 堪える よう です ね」 　 リック も 平気 そう だ が、 ライニール を 介抱 する 参考 にはなり そう も ない。 どう し た もの かと 見 て いる と、 ライニール の 体 が 輝い た。 「ふう、 詫び 石 の おかげ で 助かり まし た！」 「って、 吐き気 が する ぐらい で、 使っ て いい もの なの？ 　 それ!?」 「でも この まま だ と 身動き が 取れ ない です し」 　 詫び 石 の 全貌 は 不明 だ が、 ライニール は 瘴気 への 耐性 を 得 た よう だ。 「どう する の？ 　 なん か 怪しい 雰囲気 だ し、 も こ も こさ ん は ああ 言っ てる けど」 　 知 千 佳 が 夜霧 に 確認 する。 「確か に 結界 とやらを 抜け てからは うっすら と 死 の 気配 が し てる ね。 俺 の 目 には、 この あたり は 少し 陰っ てる よう に 見える」 　 だが、 その 気配 は 差し迫っ た もの では なく、 引き返す ほどかと いえ ば 微妙 な ところ だ。 「まあ、 大丈夫 じゃ ない かな。 今 すぐ に 危険 が ある わけ じゃ ない し」 『まあ、 お 主 の こと だ。 どう にでも できる の かも しれ ん が、 細心 の 注意 を はらっ て くれ』
