  1. GIZA NECROPOLIS.
  2. Greater Cairo, Egypt.
  3.
  4. Heavy breaths reverberated against solid blocks of quarried limestone as a line of tourist marveled within the Pyramid of Khufu. Exploring inside was a bit terrifying for Bonnie Bennett. As large as it was, the tunnels were rather small and everyone was a bit cramped together as they entered the monumental structure. There wasn't much airflow and it made the inside uncomfortably hot and stuffy; someone who suffered with claustrophobia most definitely wouldn't make it out alive. In every shadow, in every crevice, there were symbols carved in red granite. Each step brought on wave of excitement, but also a small pull of boredom. There were no relics or treasures displayed inside -- mostly just giant brick walls. Honestly, if you were hoping to see tomb paintings or anything remotely special, going to the Cairo Museum was your best bet. Luckily for Bonnie, she got a deep sense of satisfaction just from standing in a historical place.
  5.
  6. For years, Bonnie had been traveling all over the world and was hell-bent on keeping her promise to the love of her existence. Enzo. She was going to live life to the fullest, not taking a single moment for granted. She was going to see the world, and though he could not physically be there to see it with her, she would hold him close to something of hers that he still claimed -- her heart. Draping her arms around her slender form, she stood quietly with her feet flattened against the base of the stone platform beneath her feet. She could hear the tour guide ushering them into the sloped area of the structure. Her eyes were laced with enthusiasm, also amusement as she watched s confused man walk in overlapping circles.
  7.
  8. "Good evening, everyone. My name is Mostafa Ibrahim and I am your tour guide for the day. While most people have decided to vacation here for our warm climate and surreal waters, the lot of you have come to embrace our rich culture and fascinating history. For that, we do thank you. Today we will be visiting the three great pyramids. Our first stop is here within the Pyramid of Khufu. This great Pyramid is the largest if the three. It was built by Khufu and rises to a height of 140 meters -..." He spoke, but was soon cut off by a sweet voice coming from the crowd.
  9.
  10. "Actually, it is the height of 146 meters. 481 feet to be exact." Bonnie spoke out. The group of tourists around her turned to lay their gaze upon her like an offering to the Goddess Bastet. Mostafa seemed to be amused, regaled with color as someone researched the background before traveling. He walked over to Bonnie, eyes shimmering like carnelian gens in the sunlight. He slipped his fingertips underneath his chin -- studying the woman as if he was daring to peer deep inside of foreign bones. "I stand corrected. It seems that you are right about that. Did you also know that it wasn't just the height that made this Pyramid impressive? It was also the precision in which it was designed and executed. Much like yourself." He said, offering a slow wink to Bonnie. Her stomach churned as he turned away from her, a little uneasy as he tried his hand at flirting with her. He was smooth, but not smooth enough.
  11.
  12. RING RING RING
  13.
  14. Bonnie was soon shaken back to reality by the sound of her cellphone ringing. The sound echoed in the empty room, reflecting between the walls and the floor. The crowd was beginning to walk away and out of the tunnel, but for some reason Mostafa kept his eyes on Bonnie. Reaching into the satchel, the petite brunette unsheathed the cellular device and answered it.
  15.
  16. "Hello?" Bonnie spoke softly as she trailed off into an underground passage to her left. Her fingertips curled around the rubber phone case that she used to protect the device.
  17.
  18. "Bonnie, thank God. I was hoping that you'd answer. It's so good to hear your voice." The female sighed in relief.
  19.
  20. "Caroline? Is everything alright?"
  21.
  22. "Of course. Everything is great...and by great, I mean that the twins are running amuck and quarreling like little maniacs." Caroline groaned in vexation. "But that's not why I've called. I have exciting news! Guess who's sitting beside me right now?"
  23.
  24. Bonnie quirked a brow, trying to think about anyone of importance that she would be exited about hearing from. Her eyes widened as she pressed her back against the stone wall, sliding down the mineral to take a seat upon the ground. Realization sat in --provoking Bonnie's eyes to fill to the brim with salted tears. The Hem of her denim blouse ruffled against the waist band of her jeans and she sat in silence for only a moment.
  25.
  26. "Hi Bon Bon. I thought you'd be back home by now. We wanted to surprise you." Elena's voice came through the phone. In that moment, her voice clashed with Bonnie. Two souls, like two dew drops rushing into one.
  27.
  28.
  29. Teardrops splashed down her face, crashing onto her blouse. Happiness and a mirage of memories radiated within her soul and filled her mind. A few years ago, she would have thought this to be a dream. To hear her best friend speaking, to have her awake and aware of her surroundings once again. Thought they had lost a great deal of people in their lifetime, Bonnie was glad that they hadn't lost each other.
  30.
  31. "Here I in Egypt taking a tour of the three Great pyramids and you guys are making me get emotional. I think it's safe to say that you are both party poopers." A soft round of laughter emerged from her lungs and her diaphragm tightened up.
  32.
  33. "You went to Egypt without us?! Not only are my children driving me insane, but one of my best friend's has betrayed girl trip code? This is absolutely not okay and I need a drink." Caroline huffed.
  34.
  35.
  36. "I see someone hasn't lost their flare for dramatization."
  37.
  38. "Will she ever lose that? She's like the queen of exaggerated theatrics. We'll let you finish enjoying your sight seeing. Call us as soon as it's over and send us photos?" Elena chimed in.
  39.
  40. "Oh, wait! Before you go, I have a proposal for you. As you know, Ric and I opened the Salvatore boarding school. It's already proving to be hard work but... we'd love to have you join us here. Besides, who's better to teach the children about the gift of magic than the woman who single handedly destroyed hell."
  41.
  42.
  43. Bonnie sat in silence for just a moment. The thought of returning to Mystic Falls was more than she could handle right now. It was a burden that she wasn't so sure that she was willing to be taken with -- at least not for some time. "I don't know, Caroline. I'm just beginning this new chapter in my life and I'm not sure this will be the right move." Bonnie expressed to her.
  44.
  45. "Come on, Bon. We could really use your expertise here. You're a force to be reckoned with. I won't take no for an answer. "
  46.
  47. "I guess you being unnecessarily bossy isn't going to go away anytime soon either, huh? I'll consider it but I have to go. I love you guys." Bonnie smiled softly, tapping the button to end the call swiftly. Leaning her back against the wall, the witch closed her eyes and allowed her hand to wrap around the pendant filled with Enzo's blood around her neck. It was almost like she could feel him there with her, but she could never see him. It saddened her to a certain extent, but it was better than not being able to witness him at all. Taking a deep breath, she relaxed and conjured up a world where she was all alone. It was quiet for the most part. That was until a man with a solid jaw line and light olive skin tone began to approach her. He was dashingly handsome and the sight on his cocky smirk made Bonnie smile like a child in a candy store.
  48.
  49. "Hello love. Did you miss me?" He extended his arm towards her in hopes that she would take his hand. His willowy digits wiggled at her, luring her in to his touch.
  50.
  51. "Enzo..." She whispered. Plancing her hand within his own, it felt so bizzare. She knew that she wasn't touching him in actuality...but it felt so real. She slipped her fingers in between the spaces of his own and glanced up at him with a smile. Oh, how she missed him; how she wished that he could have been by her side through this entire adventure. "This isn't reality, is it?" She asked him as tears began to stream down her rosy cheeks.
  52.
  53. "This is as real as you desire it to be, my love every step of the way, I am with you. Even in the pretty little mind of yours."
  54.
  55.
  56. Rose petals poured down from the blueberry skies as thick as harvests beneath hail. The stars of heaven fell calmly away like flakes of snow when the sunlight would appear. She leaned her head against his chest, wanting to savor the moment of how he actually felt against her.
  57.
  58. "Tell me, love. Are you loving life to the fullest as you promised me?" He asked her. His free arm snaked its way around her waist, holding her close to him and as tightly as he could.
  59.
  60. "I am. I've been traveling all over the world just like I told you I would. We were supposed to do this together though, Enzo."
  61.
  62. "And we have been. I've been with you on these marvelous journeys. Even when you almost fell from that Gondola on Italy. I was the one that saved you, I think that labels me as a hero now." Enzo smirked, teasing the woman in his arms.
  63.
  64. "You're an idiot, you know that?" Bonnie laughed, rubbing her cheek against the fabric of his cotton sweater. She sighed happily, sniffling as she loved her free hand to wipe away her tears. "Caroline asked me to come teach at the Boarding school. I haven't thought about it yet, but -"
  65.
  66. "Mystic Falls doesn't deserve you, love. Over and over that place has tried to break you. You deserve to live, Bonnie Bennett. You deserve the world and nothing less."
  67.
  68. "But, my friends..."
  69.
  70. "Your friends would understand that sometimes you need to choose your happiness above what they want. You've been there and you've done your part for us all, love. However, whatever you decide...I will be right here supporting you and protecting you. Do you understand? I love you, Bonnie." Enzo spoke. Leaning in to her, he pressed his forehead against her own as his lips meshed with hers in a slow dance. The world around her went dark and slowly, the love of her entire world faded away from view. She opened her eyes, revealing the darkness within the Pyramid once again. Alone, but with a smile as she could still feel Enzo's lips against hers.
  71.
  72. "I love you, Enzo."
  73.
