- Barry was from a small family of a middle-class upbringing. They weren't exactly poor, but definitely were not well off.
- He was raised along side his little brother who was 2 years younger than him, and were known for getting into trouble.
- No matter were one was, the other followed right behind.
- As they grew up, Barry started doing hard working jobs around town; such as hunting or harvesting lumber.
- His brother wasn't too fond of a working lifestyle, and preferred a simpler task of drinking and taking to the women in town.
- It wasn't long until Barry was noticed by higher ups for his strong physique and ability to handle an axe, even if it was just for felling trees.
- He was brought on as a bodyguard for transporting higher class citizens from place to place, and although he wasn't fond of the work, it paid for his families well-being.
- He didn't ask too many questions about the ones he was escorting. It was none of his concern. It was only a job after all.
- He got used to the job after 2 years of doing, even got into a few fights protecting his escorted.
- His 43rd job was a number that is etched into his mind forever...
- He was escorting a pretentious elf, his snobby attitude reeked of malice towards anyone lower than him.
- He would try and egg Barry on multiple times to get him to act out, but Barry wouldn't give him an ounce of satisfaction.
- It was his worst escort yet, but he would manage.
- Or so he thought...
- Two children burst out from the tree line startling the carriage holding the elf.
- The carriage shook, but not enough to harm anyone.
- The Elf kicked the door open stammering about his hair being messed up looking around for Barry.
- He spotted Barry and demanded an answer, and then glanced at the two children.
- He approached the children demanding an answer to if they were responsible.
- It was a brother and his younger sister, The sister said that they didn't mean to scare anyone and that they were sorry.
- The Elf struck the young girl and approached the boy.
- Angered at his sister being harmed, the boy kicked the Elf in the leg, covering it with filth.
- The Elf, who was furious, ordered Barry to execute them immediately, and find the village they were from to find the responsible parents.
- Barry looked at the children, then back to the elf and refused.
- The elf then reached for his hip and un-sheathed a ruby encrusted dagger, the hilt was silver forged into the shape of a dragon.
- He approached the children, dagger in hand. Barry knew when a man was only trying to intimidate, and this Elf meant to kill.
- Barry, as hard as he could, struck the Elf in the back of the head.
- He then took the children, asked them where they lived and told the parents to flee immediately.
- When he returned to the carriage, the Elf was gone.
- Panicked, Barry went into hiding for a few days, and slowly made his way back home; hoping to not be noticed.
- It was then he realized the gravity of what he had done.
- He approached his home to find his mother gone, and his father sorrowfully staring out the window.
- His father told Barry that his mother had been assassinated, and a note was left stating that their son was to blame.
- The father took this to mean that Barry's brother was at fault and kicked him out, swearing that he was no longer his son.
- Barry interjected immediately, telling his father that it was all his doing.
- Both he and his father wept, he told Barry that he has to find his brother.
- His brother knew whatever happened was because of Barry, and ran far away, wanting nothing to do with his brother.
- Barry's brother Theodore wasn't the most competent half-orc, and Barry knew this.
- He was far from intimidating, and didn't have a mean bone in his body.
- All he did was drink and crack dumb jokes, even at the most inappropriate of moments.
- Barry had to find him, he had to apologize.
- He had to bring his brother home.
