- C - College Football's about to start, and with some preseason rankings!
- Unlike last year when we saw Navy start off with a historic-high #8 and the voters' panel placed Northwestern at #9, there's nothing unusual about the rankings this time around. On the top 5 you see familiar names with Northwestern topping the list after winning the most recent Tiger Bowl, and even as they had 7 players drafted to the 2052 QFL Draft, the talent depth and coaching they have in Attawapiskat should be more than enough to put them as the favourites to defend their title.
- Right below, we have the historical rivals in Francophone schools St-Gabriel-Richard and Saguenay, as they stand right behind at #2 and #3. The Wolverines return their head coach, Stephane Arvineau, for the 9th straight year after a 7-year contract extension, while Saguenay starts the first season under their head coach Mario Chun-Kim and offensive coordinator Sara Lee Hampton in their gradual shift to a more spread offence, something that the South Bend school has not tried since the days of Alton McNair (so ancient history). Both sides have a lot of major talent to replace, As they have done so every even-numbered year, St-GR and Saguenay will face each other on week 6, with Saguenay facing Southern Manitoba the week before. This match will be the one to watch this season, if you choose to avoid RSECQ matches for annoying fans.
- In the meanwhile, St. Croix, still with their all-Quebecois quarterback Eli Yienya, places fourth after coach Kweon's return to the position for the 13th position, while it is 11-time champions Latilutakowa National Mustangs who has to live up to their #5 billing after the departure of running back Will Hyatt-Hewat to the QFL. Those two have plenty of talent to pull through, and their strength lies upon line-of-scrimmage, but the former has questions on three of their secondary spots (junior safety Bruno Forgacs, the all-Quebecois, is the exception) and latter struggles on key situations. Can they overcome these challenges this time?
- Right behind the top five sees a wide range of contenders even though there's a bit more risk that lie with betting on them. Among them the Keewatinook Huskies from the northeastern corner of the westernmost province lead the way, as coach Niko Romanchuk's side hopes to turn around the narrative that has placed on them after falling short on last 3 New Year's 6 Bowl appearances (0-3 record, with point margin of -81). They do bring back 10 of their 11 defensive stars, as well as the second-team all-Quebecois running back Jean-Joseph Mah-Akanya, and if they can minimise the losses on non-conference matchups, that'd be helpful. The week 2 match at home versus Latilutakowa will be the one to watch.
- They are followed by Iqaluit and Montreal Metropolitain. The northerly Inukshuk have an exceptional front seven with all four of their defensive line viewed as a 1st Round talent on QFL drafts (they are not all on same year - only two will graduate to QFL next spring), and the home advantage they have playing at Iqaluit Stadium, in middle of the snow and the cold, can propel them through more often than not. And there are the Fusiliers of the south, whose duo of gunslinger Antoine Sauvageau and tight end Rudolph Chen, as well as mostly-intact offensive line, to watch out for. If they can minimise the damage done defensively to them, they can also have a good season though we won't really know until the final game of the season, when they face their biggest enemies in Bleu et Blanc. Of course, they both happen to be in the RSECQ, which is toughest conference of all five to win in all of QIS, so both their road to the conference title won't be easy. But if they can make it, they will actually have a solid chance to make their first Tiger Bowl semifinals (attached to Camelia and Commonwealth Forces bowls this year) in eight years for Iqaluit and eleven for UMM.
- To wrap up the top ten were the pair of finalists in Queen's College and Southern Manitoba.
- On their 4th year with Park Seung-Ho as head coach, the Golden Gaels return most of their offence, but the lack of experience on quarterbacks remain a massive question as there appears to be no clearcut starter - and that's with 3 top 50 recruits over last two cycles. They will have to find that solution soon, especially if they wish to beat both Saguenay and Northwestern, two teams they really need to beat out in order to remain in contention. The Trojans, on the other hand, have a bit more room with all the depth on their skill guys, but the organisational disarray there is one of concern. With coach Simon Ferreira Brunel reportedly on hot seat, it is possible something's in works over there.
- Also receiving votes were: Goose Bay (landed #3 prospect of the recruiting year, quarterback Michel Brochu-Caspi out of locak Armidale High), Yongma College (junior quarterback Rodion Schneider is expected to have another great year), Hamilton (returns most of their defensive starters), Chicoutimi (head coach Yoon Bo-Ra's #1 recruiting class on their senior year), and Nunavut State (partly thanks to how most SAL-10 teams have lost talent with the graduations and transfers).
- O - Week 1: Opening week starts off with a bang!

- The very first week of college football is always exciting, especially as students return to campuses and football fans are ready to head to the stadiums to cheer for the schools they root for. This QIS football season's opening kickoff was at Gaagiishka'aanig, South Detroit, where the #2 St-GR hosted the #4 USC. While most pundits expected this match, held by traditional names known for their strength on line of scrimmage, to go down to wire, it ended up being anything but a close one, as the Wolverines came out on top with a 12-tackle, 2 sack performance by freshman linebacker Jar Jar Muncey. The California City native, who was rumoured to be surprised with lack of international recruitment on the NSCF circuit, dominated all training camp long and was named the player of the game.
- As for the rivalry match of the week, Hampton's first match in charge as the Fighting Irish's offensive coordinator could not have gone any better, as Saguenay offence scored 7 touchdowns in front of enthusiastic home crowd. Starting quarterback Javon Huntington (Jr) and Ranorian freshman Ernest Bello split duties for the game, especially as the Fighting Irish came out to an early 35-0 lead and never looked back, something that gave the Fighting Irish a solid opening day victory to not only be confident about their starters, but also to test their depth. In the meanwhile, Rodion Schneider casually broke the school record with 512 passing yards, 46 completions (46/54) and 8 touchdowns before being benched after halftime (score: 59-21 for Eagles), as the Eagles scored 105 on NNU Shamrocks with little mercy. Could this be their year?
