  1. I’ve always loved overcoming technical challenges to creatively solve problems. When I was younger, I had a passion for 3-d computer animation. One project I did took more 500 hours and nearly a year to complete. It really satisfied me to see a vision through to the end. I also enjoyed the self-directed learning aspect of it. Learning from books, I could always be running my won experiments to deep my knowledge, which I found inwardly fulfilling and exciting.
  2. Then, my passion switched to writing. I wrote a play in college and saw it produced. I really enjoyed the technical challenges of finding the write word or sentence structure, as well as working out the story mechanics. I graduated with a degree in Create Writing. A while later I was accepted for grad school in fiction. I decided to to not go, realizing that I wanted to be doing something more practical.
  3. Though software engineering is a passion I’ve discovered more recently, it combines aspects that drew me to my other passions. Writing and programming both involve ordering written text to accomplish more than each word or method can accomplish on its own. There’s the aspect of always learning to do new things on the computer. There’s also the satisfaction of being involved in the creation of something new. Plus, your user won’t just be viewing the project once as they might with entertainment. Instead it has the potential to become a tool they come to rely on every day.
  4. Turing was a way to fast track my learning, to become immersed in all aspects of writing web applications, including testing, version control, and working collaboratively with other programmers.
