- Overview:
- The Typhon is the end result of fifteen years of research and development with
- the lessons learned from the Rifleman and Cerberus BattleMechs. After much
- deliberation and redesign, the Typhon was born, an amalgamation of the two
- concepts.
- Capabilities:
- Built on a 95 ton chassis, the Typhon apes the basic layout of the Cerberus'
- chassis in an effort to get the most stability out of the platform, but the
- similarities end there. An extralight engine and endo steel do their utmost to
- give the Typhon both speed and protection, while affording the mech sufficient
- weaponry. The Typhon's primary armament, residing in the 'Mech's forearms,
- consists of two pairs of Light AC/5s in each arm, mounted above the hand, with
- an ER Large Laser in between the ACs. Six ammunition bins serve the ACs, two in
- each arm, and a secondary magazine located in center torso, giving the Typhon
- excellent endurance on the battlefield, even when using special munitions. The
- Light ACs are augmented by a licensed copy of the Garret D2j targeting system,
- giving the Typhon incredible anti air capabilities. A quartet of ER Medium
- lasers rounds out the Typhon's weaponry, giving it a brutal close range punch.
- Deployment:
- Seranagos Arms rushed the Typhon into service, offering generous deals on the
- BattleMech, producing twenty units by the end of 3099, which nearly bankrupted
- the company. Only the Victoria War and an interest in the design from StarCorps
- Industries saved the Typhon from obscurity, with the power of StarCorps and the
- damage of the Victoria War lending a pressing need for a solid fire support
- unit in the AFFS. Typhons appear in low numbers in almost a quarter of the AFFS
- as of 3145, though the disaster at Palmyra may see more units being purchased.
- The most significant action the Typhon has seen was a highly publicized pirate
- raid on Adelson in 3134 where a quartet of pirate ASFs attempted a strafing run
- on elements of the Periphery March Militia, including a Typhon piloted by then
- Sergeant Emily Sanderson. Sergeant Sanderson, an AC specialist, switched to her
- Typhon's secondary ammo bins and laid out a wall of flak shells that took down
- the lead craft, a Riever, and crippled another, forcing the remaining flight to
- flee. After a brief chase by Sanderson's lance, the pirates found that the PMM
- had already captured their dropship and surrendered.
- Variants:
- There are two other variants of the Typhon, each focusing on a different
- weapon, like the original. The -2N trades all four LACs for a pair of Rotary
- Autocannon 5s, though space concerns forced the arm mounted ammunition bins
- into the -2N's torsos. The -3N uses, instead of ACs, a pair of Thunderbolt 15
- missile launchers, though a lack of tonnage means that each launcher only has 8
- shots apiece. A final variant, added to Seranagos' catalog in 3122, is a refit
- kit for the -1N. The removal of the AC magazines in the center torso allows for
- CASE to be added to the side torsos and another ton of armor.
- Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:
- Lieutenant Emily Sanderson: A lance leader in the Periphery March Militia,
- Lieutenant Sanderson earned her reputation as a crack shot even before the
- pirate raid on Adelson. Lieutenant Sanderson is currently serving as the face
- of a war bond tour in the Periphery March, rather than being deployed with the
- rest of her unit on it's attack on the Capellan Confederation. This soft action
- is beginning to chafe at the Lieutenant, who doesn't want to see her friends
- suffer without her presence.
- Additional:
- Quirks: Improved Targeting (Medium), Anti Air Targeting.
