  1. >Lynn: She’s not gay, Luna.
  2. >Lynn: She’s my daughter.
  3. >Lynn: I would know, she would tell me.
  4. >The messages pop up in the messenger app in rapid succession.
  5. >Luna: Lynn, it’s okay. It’s not a big deal, like when we were kids.
  6. >Luna: I just think I could help her out. That’s all.
  7. >Lynn: It doesn’t matter to me. She is who she is.
  8. >Lynn: I had tons of lesbian teammates. If she is that way, then she can tell me herself.
  9. Luna: Just let me take her out for a day, I won’t push her, and, if you really don’t want to know, then I won’t tell you. I’ll tell her to tell you, when she’s ready.
  10. >Luna figures that Lynn is almost certainly gnashing her teeth, her competing nature pushing to prove Luna wrong, so she can be #1 mom.
  11. >Lynn: Fine. She has a dentist appointment next week. You can take her there and take her to lunch, then drop her back off at school.
  12. >Luna: Sounds Good. Let the school know.
  13. >Lynn: I’ll give you the details later.
  14.
  15. >Luna rolls up to Lacy's school in her SUV and heads for the office.
  16. >Lacy is waiting there and they head out for the dentist's office after Luna signs her out.
  17. >After a few minutes waiting, they take Lacy back to the dentist.
  18. >Luna reads old magazines while they do the cleaning.
  19. >Suddenly, a receptionist is standing over Luna, looking rather distressed.
  20. >"Yeah? Is Lacy ready to go?" Luna says, raising an eyebrow.
  21. >"Um- well, there was a slight miscommunication. The hygienist misread the chart and gave Lacy some nitrous in preparation for a root canal, and-" The receptionist begins before she is interrupted.
  22. >"You gave my niece a root canal!?" Luna interjects. Fuck! Lynn is gonna jump down my throat for this. Because it has to be my fault.
  23. >"No, no! We caught the mistake, eventually, but she's-" The receptionist continues, hesitantly.
  24. >"What? Spit it out." Luna taps her foot in 4/4 time.
  25. >"High as a kite?" The receptionist grimaces.
  26. >"Oh." Luna says and then nods.
  27. >"Yes. So, we would suggest not to take her back to school today. We can give her a note and there won't be any long term effects, so... could we?" The receptionist scratches her neck, her frizzy hair swaying.
  28. >"You want to forget this happened?" Luna asks, it seems to be where the woman is heading.
  29. >"Yes. I think we would like that. We won't charge for the cleaning either!" The receptionist adds.
  30. >"Fine. Let me know when my niece is done with the cleaning." Luna says and the receptionist turns to go back behind her desk. "Wait!" The woman turns. "My Niece gets go all out on the goodie drawer."
  31. >The receptionist nods sullenly.
  32.
  33. >"Come on, sweetie." Luna says as she guides the woozy Loud out of the door.
  34. >Lacy's bag of goodies bulges with foam airplanes, toy cars, and spider rings.
  35. >This wasn't all bad, now Luna could be a bit more blunt, find some things out and Lacy might not even remember.
  36. >"What do you want for lunch?" Luna says as she buckles her niece into the SUV.
  37. >Lacy looks to her right and then jumps. "Woah. That came out of nowhere."
  38. >"The door?"
  39. >"Is that what you call it...?" Lacy responds.
  40. >"What do you want for lunch, Lacy?"
  41. >"McDonalls." Lacy murmurs into her shoulder.
  42. >"McDonalds?" Luna asks.
  43. >"MCDAONLADS!" Lacy shouts suddenly, throwing her arms limply into the air.
  44. >"Okay." Luna says as she drives off.
  45.
  46. >"Do you like your burger, Lacy?" Luna asks, as the girl was playing with the wrapped burger.
  47. >But Lacy seemed to be putting herself back together from her earlier high.
  48. >"Yeah... it's soft." She says. "Like Gloom..."
  49. >"Is Gloom soft?" Luna asks. Checkmate, Lynn.
  50. >"Yeah, she got big..." Lacy then motions infront of herself with her arms. "And she's cute. Boys like her."
  51. >"Oh? Do you like Gloom too?" Luna asks, coyly.
  52. >Lacy shakes her head.
  53. >"Are you shy? It's okay to like girls, Lacy." Luna says, turning towards her niece.
  54. >"Gloom's too soft." Lacy shakes her head again.
  55. >"Well, who's not soft?" Luna asks.
  56. >"Marla. She's not." Lacy says with a goofed-up smile.
  57. >"Do like that she isn't soft?" Luna lowers her head, trying to look Lacy in the eyes.
  58. >"Yeah. She wants to beat me up." Lacy nods.
  59. >"Huh?" Luna grimaces.
  60. >"I want her to step on me..." Lacy laughs quietly.
  61. >"Okay." Luna says. "Well, that's one confirmation."
  62. >Luna crumples up her trash and decides to drive her niece around a bit for dropping her off at home.
  63. >Luna would have her 'I-told-you-so's, but she would leave some mysteries for Lynn to discover on her own.
  64. >That seems like the best outcome to Luna.
