  1. Hi Guys and Gals
  2.
  3. I need an xorg / ati expert to ask a few questions. So I will just ask the questions and wait for one of You to reply.
  4.
  5. Ok... So I own a laptop its a Packard Bell EasyNote W3301
  6.
  7. it has this card
  8.
  9. 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon XPRESS 200M 5955 (PCIE)
  10.
  11. the card works with ati driver
  12.
  13. [andrzejl@wishmasbell ~]$ cat
  14. /etc/X11/xorg.conf | grep iver Driver "ati"
  15.
  16. [andrzejl@wishmasbell ~]$ X -version
  17. X.Org X Server 1.9.5
  18. Release Date: 2011-03-17
  19.
  20. mesa-7.10.2-1pclos2011
  21.
  22. since the upgrade to the xorg 1.9.5 the card lost its 3D power
  23.
  24. [andrzejl@wishmasbell ~]$ glxinfo | grep irect
  25. direct rendering: Yes
  26.
  27. It has direct rendering working - yes
  28.
  29. but before I was getting about 350 FPS in glxgears and about 30 in Quake 3 Arena
  30.
  31. I know that glxgears is NOT ideal as a perfomance measure tool but it can give You a certain idea of what You work with.
  32.
  33. Now after the upgrade all I am getting is 112 maximum in glxgears - and that is about 2 or 3 FPS in Quake 3 Arena so there is a huge performance loss...
  34.
  35. I googled for a good few days now and tried multiple xorg.conf options and tweaks - is there a xorg guru here that could tell me how to enhance the xorg.conf for my card so I can use 3D in games again?
  36.
  37. oh another thingy 2.6.38.7-pclos1.a64 kernel version dont know if its useful or not...
  38.
  39. Andy
