- Hi Guys and Gals
- I need an xorg / ati expert to ask a few questions. So I will just ask the questions and wait for one of You to reply.
- Ok... So I own a laptop its a Packard Bell EasyNote W3301
- it has this card
- 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon XPRESS 200M 5955 (PCIE)
- the card works with ati driver
- [andrzejl@wishmasbell ~]$ cat
- /etc/X11/xorg.conf | grep iver Driver "ati"
- [andrzejl@wishmasbell ~]$ X -version
- X.Org X Server 1.9.5
- Release Date: 2011-03-17
- mesa-7.10.2-1pclos2011
- since the upgrade to the xorg 1.9.5 the card lost its 3D power
- [andrzejl@wishmasbell ~]$ glxinfo | grep irect
- direct rendering: Yes
- It has direct rendering working - yes
- but before I was getting about 350 FPS in glxgears and about 30 in Quake 3 Arena
- I know that glxgears is NOT ideal as a perfomance measure tool but it can give You a certain idea of what You work with.
- Now after the upgrade all I am getting is 112 maximum in glxgears - and that is about 2 or 3 FPS in Quake 3 Arena so there is a huge performance loss...
- I googled for a good few days now and tried multiple xorg.conf options and tweaks - is there a xorg guru here that could tell me how to enhance the xorg.conf for my card so I can use 3D in games again?
- oh another thingy 2.6.38.7-pclos1.a64 kernel version dont know if its useful or not...
- Andy
