Time Stop

“Yeah, I guess you’re right. No need worrying about the future, especially when I’ve got time by my side. Right Chloe?” She spoke while looking at the ceiling, but grew worried as she heard no response. She shot up and looked around, and panicked as Chloe was nowhere to be found. As she looked out the window, she noticed something odd. The birds weren’t moving. The clouds seemed frozen in place. It was as if time itself was stopped.

“This is hella strange.” Max raised her hand, trying to rewind it and go back, find the cause of this. Yet, nothing happened.

“Max, there is no need to be alarmed.” Despite hearing this, she was greatly alarmed. Time was frozen, yet she heard a voice in the same room as her? She turned around to see a man in a suit. He seemed very casual, but he had something in his hand, and held it out to Max.

“Your time powers intrigued me. I’m here to offer you something you want in exchange for your services.” The man shot her a warm smile, though Max could tell it wasn’t genuine. This was nothing more than a business exchange to him.

“Fine, out with it. What do you want?”

“You can call me Phane. I’m running a tournament where the greatest warriors in the multiverse gather to fight for prizes.”

“Alright weirdo, what does that have to do with me?”

“Well, you have been chosen, Max. We have a new position open for team leaders, and your powerset seems like it would fit in perfectly.”

“Hold up, you want me to, what, lead a bunch of fighters as they kill each other or something? What the shit dude, I’ve never even been in a fight! How do you expect me to do something like that?”

“Well, when you hear the prize, you might become more interested.”

“Please, no amount of money can convince me to join your stupid tournament or whatever.”

“What if I told you that I could make all of your problems go away? I can grant your deepest desires, no matter what they are.”

“Huh? What do you-”

“I can save Rachel. I can save the town, stop the tornado. I can save Chloe, and guarantee you two have a happy life for as long as you live. All of that and more…” Phane held out his hand, offering Max a strange orb. “As long as you crush this, and join me.” With that, time resumed once more.
