  1. [08:09] <Rending_Tide> Hrm... well, if people are up to this, let's start with the stat distribution for the external, what's most important for it... I remember footwork being mentioned.
  2. [08:10] <CDAtWork> you are inventing a new one?
  3. [08:10] <Rending_Tide> yeah, a bondage based external for Tide
  4. [08:10] <CDAtWork> ah, right
  5. [08:10] <Rending_Tide> We decided on that early on. XD
  6. [08:11] <Rending_Tide> but I've been so messed up in my sleep that I've not been around to talk about it and request help
  7. [08:11] <CDAtWork> oh joy
  8. [08:12] *** EF has joined #JiangHigh
  9. [08:13] *** Earthflame has quit IRC: Ping timeout
  10. [08:14] *** EF is now known as Earthflame
  11. [08:17] <CDAtWork> INTERNETS!
  12. [08:19] <CDAtWork> so yeah, bondage. You have 35 points to assign, in 5s, among the six combat stats. *I* would think that you'd get +10s in Strike and Block, and +5 in footwork, damage, and toughness, but that's my opinion
  13. [08:19] <CDAtWork> maybe Toughness should get the +10, and block only +5
  14. [08:25] <Rending_Tide> hmm... interesting. Curious for further opinions though
  15. [08:25] <Earthflame> I like it
  16. [08:25] <CDAtWork> which one, though? Block or Toughness high?
  17. [08:26] <Earthflame> Toughness, I think.
  18. [08:26] <CDAtWork> yeah--that makes more sense to me, honestly
  19. [08:26] <Rending_Tide> I'm going to check something. One moment
  20. [08:27] <Earthflame> I'm also still toying with how I'd work and cost the technique idea I had- Love of the Lash- Your opponents suffer a -5 penalty to Dodge your strikes if you inflicted a ripple on them within the last round.
  21. [08:27] <Earthflame> The Flying Red Silk which reduces opposing Block flat is 4, so with a downside that'd be 3?
  22. [08:27] <Earthflame> (The fluff of it being, you make the hurt feel good and they want to let you hit them again :P)
  23. [08:27] <CDAtWork> haha
  24. [08:28] <Rending_Tide> [18:08] <~Earthflame> ID, I've been brainstorming with Adri on the idea of a Bondage based External but I've been coming up blank. We've settled on the idea of 'Binding others' since binding the self would suit something else more than an External, but we're wondering how one would do it, apart from it being a Flexible style (of course).
  25. [08:28] <Rending_Tide> [18:09] <IterationDrive> Hmm.
  26. [08:28] <Rending_Tide> [18:10] <IterationDrive> I see a focus on... strike and footwork for the style, I think. Not big block, nor damage. Lots of utility effects in the techniques, a big focus on disrupts and disorients, increasing cover ground difficulties, stuff like that.
  27. [08:28] <Rending_Tide> [18:10] <~Earthflame> Although I think a technique something like 'Love of the Lash' could be cool. A debuff to the opponents Dodge if you've inflicted a Ripple on them in the previous turn. (They want more~)
  28. [08:29] <Earthflame> Also an idea occured to me
  29. [08:29] <Rending_Tide> ah?
  30. [08:29] <CDAtWork> eh. I mean, ID can explain his reasoning, and I don't know much about the BDSM fetishes at all, but they don't exactly strike me (hah) as "lots of movement/fancy footwork"
  31. [08:30] <CDAtWork> the Strike, I can get behind, because you need accuracy to make your pain/pleasure whips work :P
  32. [08:30] <CDAtWork> by the same token, as a dom, you'd need to be able to resist those same efforts against you, amirite? Hence Toughness
  33. [08:30] <CDAtWork> (IMO at least)
  34. [08:31] <Earthflame> Have the style default to +10 Block, +5 Toughness with a technique that lets you flood a die to drop your Block to 0 and boost your Toughness to 15? You know how to strike painful blows so well that, when an attack is unavoidable, you instead know how to take the hit in the way which causes you the least problems.
  35. [08:31] <CDAtWork> or or or
  36. [08:31] <CDAtWork> "This style's Block bonus increases to +10 against an opponent who attacked you last round, or +15 if they inflicted a Ripple on you last round"
  37. [08:32] <CDAtWork> "Ah ah ah, naughty boy, no getting back at your mistress"
  38. [08:32] <Earthflame> Interesting. I like that a lot, too.
  39. [08:32] <Earthflame> That's be a 4/7 tech? Or something like that.
  40. [08:32] <CDAtWork> although that's more
  41. [08:32] <CDAtWork> domination
  42. [08:32] <CDAtWork> than truly bondage
  43. [08:32] <Earthflame> True
  44. [08:34] <CDAtWork> honestly I'd price it at 5, because it's two separate effects for two separate (and one's worse) conditions. 4/7 I'd assume would be "temporary boost" vs. "permanent boost for +3 destiny"
  45. [08:34] <CDAtWork> but
  46. [08:34] <CDAtWork> that's just an assumption based on what's in the core book
  47. [08:34] <Earthflame> A permanent +5 is 5 D, a minor downside drops it to 4, a major one drops it to 3
  48. [08:34] <Earthflame> So it might actually be 4/8
  49. [08:35] <CDAtWork> (I left my phone at home, so I can't exactly get on the wiki)
  50. [08:35] * Earthflame nods
  51. [08:36] <CDAtWork> all that aside, as I said, that idea might not exactly fit what Tide has in mind
  52. [08:36] <CDAtWork> for the art as a whole
  53. [08:36] <CDAtWork> is there a tied up/tangled/grappled maneuver? Like Disrupts/Disorients?
  54. [08:36] <Rending_Tide> Not that I'm aware of as of yet
  55. [08:37] <CDAtWork> (except Disorient is a poor choice for a marvel name given the, y'know, Oriental core setting)
  56. [08:37] <CDAtWork> and I'm triple-sure that joke's been made before
  57. [08:38] <CDAtWork> oh, I know
  58. [08:38] <CDAtWork> just like the other technique
  59. [08:39] <CDAtWork> except that you can penalize your opponent's Footwork
  60. [08:39] <CDAtWork> because, y'know, starting to tie them up
  61. [08:39] <Earthflame> Perhaps a technique that lets you stack D/D's?
  62. [08:45] <CDAtWork> how do you mean?
  63. [08:46] <Earthflame> Usually you can't inflict two D/D's against the same stat/skill
  64. [08:46] <CDAtWork> period? Or from one source (character)?
  65. [08:47] <Earthflame> But a technique which let you have two -5 penalties stack, increasing the penalty and making it tougher to recover. Hm. Not sure on that.
  66. [08:47] <CDAtWork> oh, that last bit
  67. [08:48] <CDAtWork> Your D/D penalties are 10 points harder to recover from, or some such
  68. [08:48] <CDAtWork> I just read a tech like that in another school
  69. [08:48] <CDAtWork> or EF
  70. [08:48] <CDAtWork> maybe allow the stacking
  71. [08:48] <CDAtWork> but the attacks have to be on subsequent turns
  72. [08:49] <CDAtWork> so just not apply both instantly at the same time
  73. [08:49] <Earthflame> ...Hmm.
  74. [08:50] <CDAtWork> when do you try to recover from marvels anyway
  75. [08:50] <CDAtWork> I have no idea
  76. [08:50] <Earthflame> What about a technique which let you inflict a D/D in addition to an Injury on a successful Rippling Roll?
  77. [08:50] <Earthflame> And on init, CD
  78. [08:51] <CDAtWork> ok
  79. [08:51] <CDAtWork> oh, now I remember
  80. [08:51] <CDAtWork> you have to use a skill the GM deems appropriate to the effect in question
  81. [08:52] <CDAtWork> as a minor on the init roll
  82. [08:52] <Earthflame> 'When you inflict an Injury Condition on your opponent, you may also inflict a Disrupt or Disorient condition with a Recovery equal to the final damage total.'
  83. [08:53] <Earthflame> Representing you binding and hobbling your opponent even as you strike them.
  84. [09:05] <Ikiryo> (10:27:12 PM) Earthflame: The Flying Red Silk which reduces opposing Block flat is 4, so with a downside that'd be 3?
  85. [09:05] <Ikiryo> Flying Red Silk is also a very questionable style :P
  86. [09:06] <Earthflame> Point :P
  87. [09:07] *** Miata_Weinbaum has joined #JiangHigh
  88. [09:07] <Rending_Tide> ?
  89. [09:09] <Ikiryo> Though, I think a lot of FRS' issue is that it's a FLEXIBLE style...that penalizes block.
