- 2017 Recap and 2018 Plans
- So it’s the end of 2017 which means I guess I should go over what happened during the year regarding speedgaming and also go over what I want to do for 2018.
- 2017
- In 2017, my goals regarding speedrunning were the complete opposite of simple. My mind for some reason thought that I was going to learn OoT, MM, TP, TWWHD, all while getting good and improving in SM64. That was a really dumb thing for me to think I could do. Out of all those things I only completed one of them and I’m ok with that. I managed to learn TWWHD and become a pretty decent runner. I’m top 10 in All Dungeons which is the main category I’ve ran, top 10 is probably my greatest accomplishment as a speedrunner. I know it’s not much but I’ve never taken a game as seriously as I did with TWWHD. Other than TWWHD I learned Odyssey when that came out, I’ve been enjoying it and I’m happy I decided to run it. Those two things were basically my main focus throughout the year, I’m happy with how I did in 2017 but I want to get better next year.
- 2018
- Now it’s time for my 2018 plans, too be honest I don’t think I’ll be focusing on that much in 2018. To start, I want to get back into OoT3D. I briefly ran this game off and on and I’m kinda sad I didn’t go into it as much as I would’ve liked to. I’m going to try and get sub 40 in Any% and I’m gonna actually finish learning MST and try and get a decent time in it. Next, I obviously want to focus on TWWHD primarily. Near the end of 2017 I got burned out on it but now that I haven’t played it seriously in a couple months I’m ready to go back. I want a top 3 time in All Dungeons and I want top 3 in Any%, and if I can accomplish both of these I’ll probably move to 100%. I know this seems ambitious but I know I can do it. When I had a 3:08 I put in a lot of work to get a low 3 hour time relatively quickly. I know if I put in enough work I can get where I want to be. I’ve never been so motivated for this game this much, I want 2018 to be my year for TWWHD. I’m only going to be worrying about three speedgames over the course of the year, the final one is going to be Odyssey. I don’t think I’ll be taking Odyssey that seriously. I feel this way mainly because it’s unrealistic for me to get good at more than one speedgame at a time. I still want to get an ok time in Odyssey Any% and Dark Side but it won’t always be my top priority. I’ll be doing TWWHD for most of the year along with OoT3D, Odyssey will be sorta a second game to do on stream when I’m not in the mood for TWWHD or if I’m feeling slightly burned out.
- I think that I’ll have a good year in terms of speedrunning. I’m hoping that since I’m focusing on a very small amount of games that I’ll be able to achieve what I aim for. 2017 was good in most aspects, but I’m excited about the potential of 2018. I hope everyone has a great new year! :>
