  1. I was able to reach the 1:15 in SMB3 100%. Honestly it wasn't a super insane goal to go for, but I was getting back into the category mainly for the RetroRaisers race and knew my time could come down a bit, so I glad I got there. If/when I come back it'd probably be to go for a 53 in Warpless and 1:14 in 100%, but I'd really like to go work on something else. I put about 800 goals for myself this year and have done NEARLY NONE of them! ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ It's time to change that.
  2.
  3. Went through the goals again and prioritized 3 of them:
  4.
  5. 1. SMW 96 Exit
  6. 2. Tarchan
  7. 3. Castle of Illusion HD 100%
  8.
  9. I think the top 2 are pretty obvious, I've been talking about both a lot. CoI HD is still a game I really like to run as it's pretty straightforward but still has some cool tricks, and 100% is a category I'm still really interested in learning and working on. Since apparently submissions for GDQ's come up insanely fast now, I'd like to maybe submit Tarchan and CoI HD, so getting them in a decent state sooner rather than later is something I want. But I'd like to get a solid 96 time first; I like racing it, but I feel like a big dumb dumb every time.
  10.
  11. So with all that said, I'd like to introduce my idea for gittin gud at SMW, something I'll give a pointless name of: 20 and 10.
  12.
  13. 20 hours of practice, and then 10 no reset runs. Repeat until I think it's a stupid idea and want to do something else (so maybe only once lol). I honestly have no idea if this is too much practice, not enough practice or what, so we're just gonna do this and see how it goes. I'll be streaming all of this, which is something I rarely do for practice, but since this is the first time I've really tried setting a regimen for learning a game so I'd like to have a bit of a record of it.
  14.
  15. My initial plans are gonna be 4-5 practice sessions and then maybe 3 or 4 streams of runs. I won't be going for absolute top insane strats until I feel it's necessary for improvement, so prepare for babby strats :P. I'm not sure how I'm also gonna try my best to note where I practice, as well as things that go well or poorly during the no-reset runs.
  16.
  17. Possible drawbacks to this approach include (but surely not limited to):
  18.
  19. 1. 20 hours is too much/too little practice - I initially thought about 10 hours of practice, but upon thinking more about it, I'm not sure 10 hours would be enough time to learn everything. I'm honestly not sure if 20 hours is too long or not enough, but we'll see.
  20.
  21. 2. Forcing runs - If runs aren't going well, it might be very tough to finish a bad run or do a second/third run after it. I'll try to keep an open mind and just work on nailing strats even if the run is dead, might possibly not compare against PB during runs to not worry about how ahead/behind I am.
  22.
  23. 3. No practice in between runs - I'll probably just warm up a bit before I start runs, and not really focus on levels even if they're giving me trouble. My reasoning here is I don't want to grind a level just because I miss it once or twice in a run. If I fail it 7 or 8 times, then it's time to work harder and/or rethink strategy for that level. This honestly is gonna be the hardest part of this whole experiment, as a lot of days I'll spend an hour or two practicing something to just relax, not having that available during the runs portion might prove difficult.
  24.
  25. Again this is a much different and much more strictly regimented approach to learning a game than I've ever tried, so I'm interested in seeing what I think of this idea once it ends. At best, I'm thinking it just might need some slight tweaks, but who knows this may work out really well... or really poorly. I'll probably get started on it either this week or next, hoping for a 2 week turn around on this first round of 20 and 10.
