55. In the 28th century, Valerian and Laureline are a team of special operatives charged with maintaining order throughout the human territories. Under assignment from the Minister of Defense, the two embark on a mission to the city of Alpha-an ever-expanding metropolis where species from all over the universe have converged over centuries to share knowledge, intelligence and cultures with each other. There is a mystery at the center of Alpha, a dark force which threatens the peaceful existence of the City of a Thousand Planets, and Valerian and Laureline must race to identify the marauding menace and safeguard not just Alpha, but the future of the universe.
 56. In the Century XXVIII, the space station Alpha is a city where beings from different planets live together exchanging their knowledge and culture. Peace is granted by a human force, including Major Valerian and his partner Sergeant Laureline. They are assigned by the Defence Minister to retrieve the last species of converter in a dangerous mission. They succeed and back to Alpha, unknown humanoids abduct Commander Arun Filitt expecting to steal the converter. They head to a forbidden area that is infected but Valerian and Laureline follow them and disclose a hidden secret about the race and the infected area.
 57. No spoilers. I do love movies. I do love 3D. And I never ever wrote a review here, until now. Never I have left a movie theater in a middle of a movie, until now.

Even with the 3D, which is not awesome, and the all that CGI (which is also not that good, imho) this movie just insults your intelligence.

I love going to the movies just to give my brain some rest. I enjoy watching movies in 3D like some 15 year old kid, even I am 28. But I just couldn't bare watching this for an hour more.

Way too much staff and characters getting screen time, doing basically nothing for the plot. Bad acting, bad dialogues, bad jokes, everything frame is way to long, just trying to get some screen time. Rihhana doesn't help also.

Dunno. Maybe its just me. But again, at least 5-6 people left before my gf, friend of mine and I left also.
 58. Valerian is a great watch, especially on 3-d. That cannot be denied. The movie has great pace, good action sequences, edgy, punky, funny main characters that don't look too slick, as is so often the case in Hollywood's big movies, but still or maybe because of that have good charisma. Their coolness, arrogance and sarcasm are very refreshing. The story could do better, but hey, it's difficult to keep all the apples in the basket, when you're on so wild a ride as Luc Besson offers you. But of course the main character of this movie is L'IMAGINATION. In this case the French version of the word, because the movie is the outcome of one man's vision. The imagination is limitless, the creativity unbridled, no effort was spared to give us a full, vast vision of the universe of Valerian, some 7 centuries from now. It's pretty obvious that Luc Besson had almost full carte blanche in the realization of his dream, which is good to keep in mind while watching the movie. For a change we aren't looking at a pre-meditated, box-office driven, risk-free effort to make a lot of money. We are looking at an alternative effort to make a box-office hit, with a more personal vision, also more individualistic, maybe more European? Keep that in mind when reading the negative reviews, especially from the American reviewers. I loved the movie and, without getting my hopes up, see it paving the way for a different, more unpredictable story-telling on the blockbuster front. And I think a lot of people, fed up with the super-heroes mania, with me.
 59. Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets might well represent the apotheosis of Besson’s singularly loony brand of filmmaking. It’s bonkers and gorgeous and confusing and thrilling and tiring and overflowing with ideas.
