  1. DMC - Devil May Cry (PC, PS3, X360)
  2. a.k.a the new one.
  3.
  4.
  5. Story 3/5
  6. the story isn't too good or too bad. it probably won't be considered a canon because of numerous contradictions with DMC3. that's probably the reason Capcom didn't label it DMC5. so if something would go wrong.. they could deny its existence.
  7.
  8. (spoilers from the first few missions)
  9. Dante is back. he isn't just an half demon anymore, he's a Nephilim. a hybrid of angel and demon. he fights Mundos, demon lord and head of an evil corporation that hold the economy by its *****.
  10. funny how the recent trend of blaming everything on the 1% reflects in gaming.
  11. oh and there WAS an reason why his hair where black.
  12. it isn't major spoiler despite the fact that you'll learn it quite far into the game. anyway, you have been warned.
  13.
  14. SPOILERS
  15. that is caused by the devil trigger. when Dante learns how to DT his hair gradually starts to grew white. it goes completely white in the last time you DT against the final boss.
  16. it might seem like a big spoiler but they kinda let that fact slide after mentioning it. you aren't really told anything about it beyond what i just said.
  17. /SPOILERS
  18.
  19.
  20. Gameplay (split into):
  21. Combat 9/10
  22. great! the system is a bit different then what veterans are used to, but it just as good.
  23. in short, instead of styles you get the Devil mode and the Angel mode.
  24. those modes changed with a press of a button and affect pretty much everything you do.
  25. for example when you attack without any modes active, dante will use the rebellion. when attacking in demon mode he'll use the demon weapon (heavy and slow) that you set. while in angel mode you used the light-fast-crowed control weapons.
  26. you'll also have different evades and pulls in both modes and so on.
  27. in devil mode you pull enemies and in angel mode you are pulled to enemies. kinda like nero in DMC4 but better.
  28.
  29.
  30. Platforming and level design(that unrelated to combat): 5/10
  31. the weakest point in the game.
  32. it feels kinda like this part is an filer between one fight and another.
  33. it never got tedious but often it just fells anti-climatic.
  34. remember that epic laser room from DMC4? i'm sure that everyone who played it do remember.. and for a good reason. for those of you who missed it:
  35. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGSVVXuMyeI
  36. now look at the new laser room. (you can stop watching when the enemies appear)
  37. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=FNXO7y1A_Lw#t=515s
  38. .. yup. no words are necessary.
  39.
  40.
  41. Graphics and Background music (5/5)
  42. as expected, they are very good.
  43. for someone who don't usually cares about music, i have to say that the heavy metal just in the right moments on intensive battles where beyond great.
  44.
  45. Replayability 4/5
  46. missions, collectibles, load of difficulties unlocking different goodies. all here.
  47.
  48. Final score 8.5/10
  49. A worthy addition to the series even if not the best piece of it.
  50. if not for the very high standards set to itself by its own title, it would be a fair nomination to the game of the year. otherwise? it just an damm fun game.
  51. recommended to fans of action games in general, in all their variations.
  52.
  53. note: if you going to play it, play on Nephilim difficulty. (the 3rd out of the 3 available to you at the beginning)
  54. i disregarded the warning saying "select this one if you played DMC before and want full experience" and was sorry for it.
  55.
  56.
  57. why oh why did i chose the cowardly path? ::insert some more dramatic speech::
