- The name’s Jonathan Halper. I’m the captain of a scout ship from the Universal Galactic Society, the UGS. The time had come again for my crew’s yearly scrapping mission. Every year we go on a mission to search for scrap that we can use for currency. This year, however, was different from the last. An anonymous person invited my crew onto the spacecraft Icarus. The Icarus is going to the edge of the galaxy. No one had gone there. Even the toughest explorers were too afraid to go. My crew was the first. I set the coordinates for the area and jumped to hyperspace. Once I got there, my crew boarded the Icarus. I stayed in the scout ship to guard it. I kept contact with the Icarus and waited for the crew to get scrapping. But I never got any info on that. In fact, I lost full contact with the Icarus. I checked what I could about it on my control panel. Strangely enough, the teleporter to the Icarus was still functional. I don’t know what could’ve happened there. I opened up the weapon vaults and exited the control room. I walked down the hall to the main lobby. I entered the weapon room and went down the stairs to the weapons. I went over to the machine gun. When I stood in the marked area, the chamber opened automatically. I grabbed the machine gun and went back up to the main lobby. I jumped into the teleporter.
- Immediately, I knew something went wrong. The Icarus sign was broken. The only letters still lit up were “I”, “C”, and “U”. There was a corpse and an ammo magazine in front of me. I read the corpse’s nametag and recognized it as Corporal Dave Capelle. “Arcade Dave,” I told myself. “Always had tokens for Luftenstein.” I put the mag in my backpack for later. I carefully strode around the place. Suddenly I heard footsteps. Loud footsteps. Was it a survivor? I turned around and saw a strange, sloth-like creature with big eyes running toward me, armed with a wrench. I aimed and fired, filling it with bullets and blowing its head off. I read up on many aliens before. I never saw something like this. I saw another one of these things eating corpse on the ground. These things were total Gluttons for guts. That’s what I’ll call them. Gluttons. I threw the head in my hands at the Glutton. It was angered and ran straight at me. I kicked it down to the ground and fired again.
