  3. -----------
  4. Attack of Glyphids.- As the team was gathering the minerals, they lowered their guard. Within seconds the cavern filled with Glyphids swarmers. Pouring out from purple holes in the walls. Appearing as never-ending waves. As ammo is getting low, the team was backed into a corner. Until Karl, picked up his pickax. Refusing to go down without a fight. Starting crushing in the skulls of all the nearby Glyphids. Creating an opportunity to escape back to the drop pod. Once the team made it back, to DRG. They submitted all the minerals they found to upper management. Afterwards they had a round of their strongest ale to celebrate their survival and riches. The team decided to call it the Skull Crusher, for Karl's legendary pickax skills.
  5. -
  6. The Deep Dive- Managment's astonishment by the minerals. Seeing a great potential to become rich. They decide to send the team back in, but this time they would go deeper with a M.U.L.E. To set up a relay beacon. The company can scan the planets core with the beacon. In order to get visuals on the inner corridors of the caverns. This would allow them to locate the best spots to send miner for minerals. The team is being assemble to go back down, to Hoxxes. The Dwarfs take this time to prepare for their oncoming mission. Most are fixing up their equipment. Every Dwarf knows that DRG, gives their miners the most utterly useless equipment. Especially a drilling company that has to combat hostile lifeforms. Karl takes this time to visit the Abyss bar. He bellows out, at the bartender. "Another Skull Crusher Ale" The rest of the team, doesn't par take in the drinking. "Gotta stay sharp" says one of the Dwarfs. Karl just grins, calls them all leaf lovers. The team gathers inside the drop pod ready to depart. This time though it’ll be more dangerous, more deadly.
  7. -
  8. Hold my beard- Upon exiting the drop pod. The Dwarfs were met with tens of hundreds of Glpyhids swarmer's and Grunts. The enemies were clinging to the cavern's walls, and ceiling. The Glyphids moved hastily towards the drill team. The Dwarfs didn't waste any time, with deadly precision shooting. The team started making a path to their objective. For every Glyphid Grunt they killed, two more would rise and take it's place. The wave of enemies seemed almost endless. They needed to reach the middle of the cavern. That's where they needed to set up the relay beacon. They were making decent progress to their destination until.
  9. -
  10. They're Here- Praetorians, Acid spitters, and Grunts appeared all over. Cutting off the dwarfs route. The team had to do something quick, they didn't have much time. They were being out numbered by the vast amount of enemies in a matter of minutes. The team was raining down hellfire. One of the Dwarfs hastily started digging into the walls, to create a tunnel that lead anywhere but here. Everybody in the team rushed in behind. The team reached a different part of the cavern, that appeared empty. As Glpyids were right behind, flowing in from the tunnel. The Dwarfs set up a satchel charge to collapse the tunnel. Separating them from their enemies. Giving the team a moments rest and time to think of a new plan.
  11. -
  12. Petrified fury- The team is determined, and motivated to see this mission through. They uncover the tunnel from which they used to escape. The Glyphids were zoned in, a choke point perfect for killing. No matter what stood in their path, they were met with the vigorous fury of Dwarfs. They manage to push the horde back. The team is now standing out into main cavern. They were gaining ground, inch by inch. The Dwarfs weren't backing down. Glpyhids blood painted the walls, their guts were puddles on the floor, and the smell covered their armor. After what seem like an eternity. The Glyphids horde seemed to die down, at least for now. Finally the team was back on track. Following their route to the center of the cavern.
  13. -
  14. The descent- The team is tired, and running low on supplies. So close to their destination. They started digging deeper, and deeper. Until they reached a cliff, that separated them from their goal. The Dwarfs come so far, but had no way of reaching down into dark abyss, they didn't have time to dig themselves all the way down. They could hear more enemies regrouping as their growls echoed through out the caves. Karl decided to volunteer himself. Say he'd be faster by himself, he could grapple onto the walls, until he reached the bottom. Then he could program the M.U.L.E to set up relay beacon. The team didn't like this idea, but Karl reassure them it's the only way. What other choice did the team have? Karl started his descent down. Everything was going smooth, until he was about 2/3 of the way down, then due to some visual impairment from the Ale, he misjudged the distance of a nearby wall, it was to far for his grappling hook to reach. He plunged the rest of the way down.
  15. -
  16. Robot Getaway- Karl, still recovering from his drop. He was fine, besides some bump and bruises. That and he damaged his grappling hook. It'd only shoot out half the distance as before. He quickly moved to the center of the vast cavern, while avoiding the red hot fire pits that spewed from the floor. Karl reached his destination, and without wasting any time started programming the M.U.L.E to set up the relay beacon. After some disgruntled remarks at the machine, he's finally done it. Karl completed their mission. Management, locked onto the Beacon position, and sent down a drop pod to evacuate the team. As the MULE locked onto the drop pod signal. It began beeping, and flashing green lights. Alerting the Glyphids of Karls presence. The M.U.L.E easily climbed up the caverns walls, from which Karl just scaled down. Passing by the rest of the team, leaving a trail of lights for them to follow that would lead them to the drop pod. Karl, was unable to keep up, due to his grappling hook being broken. He could hear the rest of his team, fighting for their survival. Karl yelled from the depths to go on without him, he’ll catch up. The rest of the team did as Karl instructed.
  17. -
  18. Horrors of Hoxxes- The team believed in Karl words. They knew that if anyone was going to make it out of this Hell, that it'd be Karl. The team followed the lights left behind from the M.U.L.E. The drop pod was in sight. The M.U.L.E was already hooked up and was ready to go, and started the count down. The Dwarfs stood out on the ramp. Waiting for their last member. They looked out into the distance they saw Karl. He was finishing off some Grunts, that followed him. He was about halfway to the drop pod, with no time to spare. All of the sudden, the whole Cavern began to shake. The cavern ceiling was coming down. A bellowing roar, echoed down. What they all saw, they couldn't believe. A Bulk Detonator, climbing from the ceiling, heading towards the drop pod. Rocks starting falling down, smashing around Karl position. His path was blocked, and he couldn't get around due to his grappling hook being broken. Karl looked up and saw the rest of his team was starting to get off the ramp to go help. Karl knew they had no time. He yelled “Go back” as loud as he could. The team devastated, returned to the ramp, and went inside the drop pod. The door closed behind them. The engines started roaring up. Karl, watched as his only chance of escaping, was departing without him. Karl held up his pickax, and with all his might he yelled. “ROCK AND STONE BROTHERS”. As the drop pod began lifting, leaving the planet behind. Karl had no time to rest, for the Bulk detonator was nearby. Thankfully It hasn't noticed him yet, for it's attention was on the departing drop pod. He took this chance to find a small tunnel, and escape the Bulk Detonators grasp.
  19. -
  20. Principle of darkness- Karl, squirmed and squeeze through the tunnel. Just enough room, to use his pickax to continue digging. He was only focus on getting away from that beast, and surviving. He knows his team will come back for him. "I can't give up" he said under his breathe. As hours went by, his mind started to crack. Karl was exhausted, and barely had enough room for him to stand. His arms weak, and tired from all the swinging. His legs felt like rubber, barely able to hold himself up. Karl wiped the sweat and dirt from his face. That exact moment the thoughts of death seeped into his head. A voice rang out from abyss, "They forgot you, Karl. They left you here to die" Karl choked up, but only for a second. Then slammed his fist into the wall. "I got to snap out of it" Karl said. Thinking to himself "What would the guys say if they saw me like this". Determined to live. Karl took his pickax in hand and did the only thing he could do, dig. He reached a point where the foundation around him fell apart and crumbled. He slid out of his make shift tunnel and down into the open cavern filled with darkness.
  21. -
  22. Shadows are moving- He fell, flat on his face. Slowly standing up and noticing his surroundings. The cavern was dark, less hot than the previous one he was in. Blue specs of light was emitting off the walls, and crystals hanging from ceiling. The Crystals would light up becoming extremely bright then shoot out an electrical burst at another nearby crystal. Giving off a few seconds of radiated light. It wasn't very much help though, but Karl could make out the shadowy Glyphids figures in the distance. Karl watched them as they growled amongst each other. It almost looked as if they fighting over scraps of flesh and meat. Karl didn't want to find out, what it was they were eating. The bigger Glyphids seemed to be more isolated, along the walls. Maybe it was them claiming their own territory from the rest of the pack. Karl took this time to look over what little supplies he had left. He had no ammo, a damaged grappling hook, two flares, and his trusty pickax. Karl wouldn't be able to take on the Glyphids in a head on fight. Karl looked outwards and squinted his eyes. He saw a white dim light farther back in the distance. "if I could reach that part of the cavern, then I could get out of this darkness." Karl thought to himself. Then that's the direction I'll go then. Karl picked up what little supplies he had left, and started making his way through the darkness.
  23. -
  24. I am lost- Karl cling to the wall, as he moved. In his mind, he had no idea what he was trying to do. Or where he was even going. He's on a hostile bug infested planet.“Where should I go?” Karl said to himself. Just then something started moving nearby. Karl quickly got behind a nearby rock. Whatever it is, it's close. Karl was barely able to make out what it was in the darkness. Then the crystals above lit up with their electrical discharge. Giving a just enough light for Karl to see. Two grunts, they were only a few steps away. I" better take these Grunts out before, they alert others of his presence". Karl thought to himself. He hopped out from behind the rock, and slammed down his pickax into one of the grunt. Karl ripped out his pickax from the dead grunts skull. Then Karl swung the bloody pickax sideways crashing it into the Grunts side. The Grunt opened it's mouth revealing it's razor sharp teeth. It look liked it was trying to call for help, but the pickax must've crushed it's lungs. The Grunt started squirming around, frantically trying to move its legs to escape. Karl grip loosen around his pickax handle. He picked up a nearby rock, and started bashing into the Grunts face. As the Grunt fell over, dead. Karl walked up to retrieve his pickax from it's body. Though something fell right next to Karl foot, it was an egg. "They must have been carrying this." Karl said, as he picked up the egg. "I wonder how much this egg would be worth?” That's it! Karl said softly. An idea just rushed to Karl's head. Management will be sending miners to where the minerals are. He just need to find a placed filled with riches. With a grin on Karl face, he started stuffing the egg into his backpack. Karl knew exactly where he had to go.
  25. -
  26. Fighting the shadows- Karl placed the egg in his backpack. The ground under his feet started to shake, an extensive roar could be heard on the far end of the cavern. Karl looked behind, he saw something. A Dread naught, with a bright reddish orange shell. The other Glyphids shadows appeared to have ran away. Karl staring in the Dread naughts direction, it was starting to charge directly at him. Karl had no choice, he was going to have to fight it. Karl popped one of his flares, to illuminate the cavern. The Dread naught, shell started to turn brighter, as the area around Karl got hotter. The Dread naughts mouth open and filled with what looked like lava. A explosive fireball shot out, directly at Karl. Karl leaped to the side just in time, as the fireball flew by him and exploded against the wall behind him. Karl got back on his feet, the Dread naught was closing in. Close enough to Karl for him to use his grappling hook. Karl shot out his hook, it landed into the Dread naughts face. Karl pressed the button to reel him in. Karl was flying towards the Dread naught with his pickax in hand. Karl crashed it into the Dread naughts face. The Dread naught, open it's mouth, and crushed one of Karl's legs with its razor sharp teeth, and iron like jaw. That exact moment Karl swung his pickax at the beast. Taking out one of the Dread naughts eyes. The Dread naught began to thrash around, releasing it's grasp on Karl's leg. Karl was thrown to the ground, he felt the air leave his lungs as he gasp for air. Karl's ribs were cracked, one of his legs looked like mince meat. Karl is unable to get up. The Dread naught stopped thrashing and peered over at it's prey, laying helplessly on the ground. The Dread naught made it's way over above Karl. As the Dread naught was getting ready to bite down. Karl grappled the ground underneath the Dread naught, sliding behind it. Karl started striking repeatedly into the shell, with his pickax. As bits fiery liquid spilled out. The Dread naught roared in pain, again thrashing around, but this time decided this prey was too much trouble, and retreated back into the darkness to recover its wounds.
  27. -
  28. Fathomless tomb- Karl tries to pick himself up but can't. He's badly injured, the wound from his leg is losing lots of blood, and his ribs are cracked. Karl started coughing up blood. Unable to walk on his own. He uses the pickax as a splint. Karl limps towards the white dim lighted area of the cavern. Leaving behind him a trail of blood. Karl tries to maneuver safely through the cavern, but he ends up tripping and falling over into the white lighted area. Laying on his back. Karl starts staring up at the light from the crystal. The blood seeping out from his wound won't stop. "I don't want to die" Karl says softly to himself. He tilts his head to the side, coughing up more blood. He notices that his blood is shining on the ground. He reaches down and pulls out his last flare. It fills the entire corridor with light. Karl can sees the cavern walls. He's surrounded by minerals, reflecting the light of the flare. The room is filled with Green emeralds, red rubies, white pearls, and gold. "A tomb fit for a King".. Karl chuckles to himself before coughing again. Maybe it was from being exhausted, or from the blood loss, but Karl could hear humming. The sound echoed within the cave. As more time passed, Karl could hear the humming more clearly. The song resembled that of an ancestors hymn. Karl's pain slowly started to fade away, he felt tired. Too tired to keep his eyes open any longer. "A tomb fit for a Dwarf". Were his final thoughts. The light from the flare dies out and returns the room to darkness.

  30. Leave no dwarf behind. - Back at the DRG. They've linked up with the relays, scanning the planet. The team, disgruntle from having to leave Karl behind. They believe he's still alive, waiting for them to return. The team convinces management to do a search and rescue mission. The team owe it to Karl; he was the one to set up the relay. They recruit a new Dwarf to help with their mission, a scout. The team pulls up images on a nearby terminal. They scanned the area, where they last saw Karl. Multiple caverns show up on the map.The team discusses which routes they'll take. Areas that they can use to their advantage to battle the Glyphids. The team is determined that they will find Karl. They prep up for their mission, and head into the drop pod. They vow to never lose another dwarf again. Every Dwarf in the team knows they won't return until they rescue Karl. They get inside the drop pod, and strap themselves in and begin their descent back to hostile planet.
  31. -
  32. March of the Brave- The team returns to Hoxxes. The drop pod lands. The Dwarfs, no longer fearing their enemies. The Dwarfs moves out in formation, as a team. Watching over each other more closely than ever before. They refuse to lose anyone else. The Glyhpids starts hurling in wave after wave of enemies at the Dwarfs. Only to leave a trail of corpses. Each step the Dwarfs took, each bullet they shot, for every enemy they slayed. Only meant they were one step closer to saving Karl. They begin searching for Karl. The start looking , where Karl was last seen alive. Trying to find any trace of him. So far they can't find anything. They'll have to search every nearby corridor, connected to the main cavern. But if that's what it took to find Karl, then so be it. Let them come, let them see the bravery of the Dwarfs.
  33. -
  34. Beneath the Crust-The team begins searching every nearby tunnels for any sign of Karl. Though each mistaken cavern, was met with fierce ambushes. Grunts, Acid spitters, Praetorians, and Mactera. Everything , and anything that Hoxxes could throw at them. The Dwarfs would overcome. Finally, after searching one tunnel they found Karl's Gun, left behind. The team fears starting coming out. Karl might of already been killed, maybe Karl was eaten. Though the Dwarfs refused to believe it. They push onward. They won't stop until they find Karl.
  35. -
  36. Matter of skill and ammunition- An extensive roar, shook the room. The team looked over and saw A Dread naught climbing down towards them. The beast had a gash across its face, and one eye missing. The outer shell looked damaged, and dented in. It didn't take long, until all the Dwarfs pieced together what had happen. Clearly this was the beast, that killed Karl. The team, filled with rage wasted no time and started shooting. Though it had little impact on the Dread naught. The beast has had enough and started it's attack. Charging at one of the Dwarfs, only to miss, and bashed into the Cavern wall. Rocks crumbled and fell. The Dwarfs now behind the Dread naught, started shooting at its shell, noticing fiery liquid starting pouring onto the ground. The Dread naught roared in pain, turning it's back away from the barrage of bullets. The Dwarfs found its weakness. The team maneuvered around to get behind the Dread naught. Every time the beast tried to charge, it left itself open to be vulnerable to the Dwarfs attacks. The Dread naught, angrily started filling its mouth with lava, shooting off explosives fireballs in every direction. The team quickly reacted and kept dodging airborne explosives while shooting. The Dread naught tired, and realizing it doesn't stand a chance against the Dwarfs, tried to retreat. It was cut off though, being completely surrounded by the team. The Dwarfs weren't about to let this one escape. Filled with rage, they cornered the beast. Bullets started chipping away at shell, there was a puddle of the fiery liquid underneath the Beast. The Dread naught opens it mouth, and it's shell started erupting. The Dread naught unable to control the amount of fiery liquid it used, ended up exploding from the inside out. Chunks of flesh filled the room. The beast was finally dead. The Dwarfs victory would be cut short, the sound of a horde of Glyphids were on the way.
  37. -
  38. The only way out is through- The Dwarfs filled with grief, had no time to mourn for Karl. They picked up his lifeless body. The weight of carrying Karl was nothing compared to burden of guilt and sorrow that fell over the team. Angry and filled with raged. The Dwarfs stared outward and saw the masses of enemies swarming to their location. The Dwarfs yelled "Rock and Stone" onto their enemies. Blood lust took over the Dwarfs, they stomped the life out Swarmers, Crushing Grunts to bits. Everything that moved that wasn't a Dwarf, was riddled with holes. The team pushed forward through their enemies. Their only goal was to bring Karl back. Finally they made it back to the drop pod. They loaded Karl in, and strapped him in. The drop pod doors were starting to close. The Dwarfs stared out, before it was shut completely. The team saw the countless bodies outside. Yet more Glyhpids were still showing up. Biting and gnawing on the drop pod, though they had little impact. The drop pod departed back to DRG.
  39. -
  40. Ode to the Fallen - Back at DRG. Bartender a round Ale. The team held a memorial service for Karl. They built a statue out of gold in his honor. He was a friend, a hero, and above all else he was a brother. The team wasn't done with Hoxxes either. They will return time and time again. Not for the riches, not for the glory, but to avenge their brother. As the team said their good byes to Karl. Management uncovered the egg, that was left in Karl backpack. Their sights of the future widen, with a new goal in mind. Weaponizing these Glyphids, while gather all the minerals Hoxxes has to offer. They couldn't of been happier with the a find like this. Management wasted no time."Miners get ready" Rang out from the intercoms. The Team, looked at each other. "For Karl" they said and started getting ready.
