  6. GZDoom stuff:
  7.
  8. How 2 make GZDoom's Hardware Rendering not look bad
  9. - Go to Options -> Display Options -> Texture Options -> set Texture filtering mode to "None (nearest mipmap)"
  10. - Go to Options -> Display Options -> Hardware Renderer -> set Sector Light Mode to "Vanilla"

  12. -How 2 make GZDoom's MIDI playback sound good
  13. - Use Emperor Grieferus' SC-55 soundfont, it's the best SF2 imitation of a Roland SC-55 I've found

  15.
  16. - I recommend using the WADSmoosh of all classic Doom entries. It includes The Ultimate Doom, Sigil, Doom 2, No Rest for the Living, The Master Levels, TNT: Evilution, and The Plutonia Experiment. Credit to JP LeBreton for the tool used. You can get it here:

  55. They are all very configurable from the in-game menus to fit your tastes.
  56.
  57. >Hideous Destructor
  58.
  59. - lights.pk3
  60. - brightmaps.pk3 (use stock brightmaps, not plus)
  61. - FancyWorld

  73.
  74. ---
  75.
  76. - Keep in mind, whenever a WAD has its own custom textures AND it does not have a Sprite Fix patch, it's preferable not to load D2 Sprite Fix or Brightmaps_Plus, since it can result in some visual bugs.
  77. - If using Smooth Weapons on a WAD with a different colour palette, you must convert its sprites to PNG Truecolor (this is an easy point and click process in SLADE) or they will look horrible.
  78. - FancyWorld can cause major slowdowns in maps with very big lava lakes. Avoid unless you know the WAD you're playing won't have huge lava lakes.
  79.

  81.
  82. PRBoom+ stuff:
  83. >D1/D2 Sprite Fix (Fixes mistakes for vanilla's sprites)
  84. >Plutmidi (Plutonia MIDI pack) for plutonia
  85. >DoomSFX (higher fidelity sounds for vanilla without being jarring)
  86. >The ZDoom DSSECRET sound
  87. None of the above seem to cause desync issues, they work with recorded demos.
  88.
  89. I also sometimes use vsmooth.wad which is a primitive version of Perk's Smooth Weapons Enhanced. It's the only variant of smooth weapon animations that I found for PRB+ that doesn't seem to break demo compatibility.
