A Meeting on The Skull Throne

Ulwai had grown tired of this job. Promoting up the ranks of the Green Maw had come with some benefits, sure, but it felt more and more like one diplomatic mission after another. Worse, still, were who she was forced to interact with.

"There have been no successes?"

"Naaaaaay. These peeeople are too weeeeak."

Ulwai frowned. At least in the thornwastes things were moving along at an acceptable pace, but here in the north it was as if they hadn't even taken their first step forward. "We've given you months. You're telling me that with all the people you've taken to the pits you have had none of them come out compleat?"

"Weeeeee have had soooooome who take shaaaaaape. Do these noooooooot satisfy you?" The massive creature lowered its head to Ulwai's level to make eye contact. Ulwai adverted her gaze.

"No, in fact they don't. They hold too much of their humanity, still. I don't see how you can blame it on the weakness of the people when you are unable to-"

"I control allllllll. I am nooooooot a mere mortal such as your sellllllllf."

The smell of mud and rot filled the chamber. A mixture of earthiness and things recently and long dead formed a revolting odor that Ulwai had to deal with since she had come down into the lair of their ally in the north. As patience testing as the trek through the swamp had been, and as patience testing as even being in this place was, not too she had to deal with this self-righteous monster.

"We are low on time now. Wheels are turning that can not be stopped any longer. I imagine you have...a couple of months, at best. Use them wisely. I will remind you Azarr Kul will have the final say to our great mother when the time comes. Pray he speaks well of your work." As Ulwai finished the sentence, she stole a glance back at the creature in the dark. For once she could see some expression of discomfort on her face. I guess there are things even gods fear.
