  1. Darkness.
  2.
  3. People say that not being able to see anything was a curse. Technically, I could agree with them on that one. Not being able to do a single thing because you lacked the sight
  4. to do anything at all made it more than a curse. To me, it was a living nightmare of which I could never awaken from.
  5.
  6. As I continued to toss and turn into my bed, I slowly tried to open one of my eyes only to come to the conclusion that they were sealed shut. After sighing to myself in frustration,
  7. I turned my face to what I assumed to be the wall and tried to let sleep take over my body. After a few minutes of trying this, I suddenly heard the soft foot-steps of my sister
  8. before they stopped at the door and knocking on it gently.
  9.
  10. "Ui-chan?" came my sisters voice from behind the door before it opened slightly to poke her head through. "It's time to wake up."
  11.
  12. I heard my sister say this but i didn't want to wake up just yet. After trying to bury my face deeper into my pillow, I could hear my sister walk inside the room and went over
  13. to the curtains and open them to let the sunlight enter my room. Being unable to see though this didn't affect me as much so I was quite greatful the darkness surrounding my
  14. eyes didn't irratate me. When my sister had done that, she procceded to walk to my wardrobe and pull out what I had assumed was my school uniform before setting it gently onto
  15. my bed. Once she had done this, she then allowed herself to fall to her knees near my bedside before allowing one of her hands to softly stroke my slightly messy hair.
  16.
  17. "Ui-Chan," I heard my sister speak calmly as she kept stroking my hair gently as one would do to a cat. "I know it's annoying to get out to bed, but I need you to wake up so
  18. that I can get you dressed and ready for school."
  19.
  20. Silently agreeing to her, I slowly raised my head from my pillow and my sister removed her hand from my head before allowing her arms to wrap around my waist tightly before
  21. pulling me close into a hug. I felt my face burn as she allowed herself to rock back and forth while gently stroking my hair. This seemed to have become a habit after what
  22. had happened to me, and although I could feel the nervousness in my sister's body, she soon got over it and didn't mind just doing this with me every morning when I woke up.
  23. Soon though she had to pull away and as she did, I could feel her slide one of her hands gently across my sealed eyes gently touching the scar's that were across where my eyes
  24. were.
  25.
  26. "I'll be right back okay Ui-Chan?" I heard my sister say as she pulled her hand away from my face and slowly got to her feet and procceded to walk towards my bedroom door. She
  27. then paused slightly only to add "I need to check and see that I haven't burned breakfast yet and I also have to check if your homework is corrected and your stuff is in your
  28. bag. I won't be a few minutes, okay?"
  29.
  30. As I nodded to her, I could hear my sister close my door and then her foot-steps starting to walk away from my door and down into the kitchen. When I couldn't hear anything, I
  31. then decided that it was time to get out of bed so after feeling around to make sure there was no obsticals around, I then procceded to carefully move my leg's out of my covers
  32. but having not been aware of being able to see my covers being tangled, I fell face-flat onto the cold ground with a soft "thump!" while my leg's were left dangling on my bed
  33. with my covers still tangled in them.
  34.
  35. While I had laid there face flat on the ground, my mind was suddenly taking a trip down to the past to remind me once again how I had gotten into this horrible mess.
  36.
  37. One month ago, I was a young, happy person who took great care of their sister. Sure I was younger than my sister by an hour, but out of both of us, I was the most mature out
  38. of the two of us. I didn't mind slaving myself just to meet my sister's needs. As long as she had a smile on her face, I was happy. Soon though that all came tumbling down
  39. quite hard one day and without my sister to be there for me, I suffered heavy consquences.
  40.
  41. One night we had run out of sugar and being that my sister always needed a cup of tea but would somehow end up buying salt instead of sugar, I decided to head off to the local
  42. shops that were always open and procceded to buy the item that allowed my sister to have her daily cup of tea. As I was leaving the shops, I couldn't help but make a foolish
  43. mistake and allowed myself to walk into an alleyway only to come across someone in a black hoodie. I honestly couldn't remember what happened next because the next thing I knew
  44. There was a sudden slashing movement and the next thing I knew I let out a blood-curling scream as I felt both of my hands go over my eyes trying to stop the pain but was unable
  45. to. I couldn't stop the pain for long before I was suddenly grabbed by the throat and slammed against the wall with so much force that I felt my whole body go limp and everything
  46. going numb. What happened next though I could not remember as while my body wasn't responding, I could hear my name being called while my attacker had suddenly decided to make
  47. theirself scarce. As I heard the person's foot-steps run away, the last thing I heard before I blacked out was a blood-curling scream and my body being cradled and tears falling
  48. on my bloody face.
  49.
  50. When my body had woken up next, all I could see was complete darkness and that one of my hands were being held tightly in their own. When I had shown signs of movement, I could
  51. feel whoever holding my hand let go of it and wrap their arms around me gently burying their face into my shoulder while crying softly. I was also aware that the person who was
  52. crying their heart out to me was my sister. When she had felt that her body wasn't sobbing anymore, she slowly pulled away from the hug and procceded to tell me what had happened
  53. while I was out. Apparently after I had walked out on that night, my sister had gotten seriously worried about me and had decided to go on after me to see wether I got lost or not.
  54. When she neared the place I was at, her heart stopped when she heard my sudden scream of pain before rushing to where the source of the noise was at. As she got closer to where
  55. I was at, she could hear frantic foot-steps run away franticaly before taking in the scene of her nearly dead baby sister before letting out a scream of her own and hastily
  56. pulling out her own cellphone to call an ambulance and the police. When she had done that, she rushed over to her sister's unmoving body and went pale at the sight of her sister's
  57. face before deciding to fall to her knees and held her sister close and cradled her ever so gently while she buried her own face into her sister's hair letting tears fall freely.
  58.
  59. As I listened to my sister's story, I couldn't help but feel where my eyes once were and felt sick when I could feel scars go across where my eyes use to be. I also felt that
  60. as I touched where my eyes use to be, that my eyes were closed and that they were sewn shut. As I slowly withdrew my hand, I had asked my sister if I were now blind forever
  61. before I felt my sister wrap her arms around my body and burying her face into my shoulder and sobbing uncontrollably and shaking violently. As she cried her heart out, I slowly
  62. decided to wrap my arms around my sister's waist to return the hug and allowed my hands to rub her back up and down soothingly trying to calm her body while I buried my face
  63. into her hair feeling my own body shake but being aware not I was never able to cry again.
  64.
  65. A slight knock on my bedroom door woke me from my thoughts and the knock told me that my sister had returned and was now entering my room. As she saw my state she walked calmly
  66. over to where I was laying in a mess before I felt her slowly untangle the cover's that had my leg's tied in them before she slowly put her hand in her own and helped me up.
  67. Once she was sure that I was balanced properly, she then sat me down on the bed gently.
  68.
  69. "Ui-Chan," I heard my sister say while she stroked my hair. "Are you alright?"
  70.
  71. I nodded my head to show that I was okay.
  72.
  73. "Good," my sister said feeling quite relifed that I was okay and not hurt. "Well, I just wanted to let you know that breakfast is ready and that your stuff and homework is
  74. corrected. Do you need help getting down stairs?"
  75.
  76. "N-no Onee-Chan," I said softly to her. "Could you pass me my blindfold and put it over my eyes? I wouldn't want people to... ya know, see these scars?"
  77.
  78. I felt my sister move away from me and I heard her foot-steps walk over to where my mirror was before I heard her come back and wrap something soft around my eyes. Once it was
  79. tied around my eyes firmly covering what scars were there, my sister helped me to my feet.
  80.
  81. "Okay then, Ui-Chan," my sister said. "just be careful when you walk down the stairs okay? I wouldn't want to phone an ambulance with whatever injury you get yourself into on
  82. accident."
  83.
  84. As I nodded my head slowly and felt myself smile in comfort at my sister's words, I felt her pat my head once more before she procceded to sort my bed. After turning my back to
  85. her, I procceded to walk carefully to the door to be mindful of not walking into stuff and hurting myself. When I had reached the door, I then left it and decided to make the
  86. dark journey towards the kitchen hoping not to hurt myself along the way.
