regarding the automated test script running tool, cucumber

how do you make the scripts for it to run?
is it manual file editing to do the run through, or can cucumber be set in a record mode and make macros for further editing?

if it can be set to record, the developers and the testers can create work flow tests which can then be reproduced easier.
if its not scriptable for each flow, the devs/testers and cucumber people have to learn indepth how to make new test patterns.
