  7.
  11. Deep within my soul, the slumbering steed bellows;
  12. as the stirrups, horseshoes, saddle and bridle are unsealed
  13. for the guardian of that man's tomb, I hear the bellows of the steed that was once asleep.
  14.
  16. Can I only listen? Is there naught that I can do but listen?
  17.
  21. He served and protected the noble, virtuous knight; carried him, swift like a gust of wind.
  22. The steed that once challenged the windmills of Consuegra
  23. has awakened; but why is he calling for me?
  24.
  30. I have neither a sword nor a lance;
  31. yet is it fine for me to attach a bridle to you, though I am not a knight?
  32. What I have is a zapateado*, dance of thunderous steps;
  33. a zapateado with the tapping of my heels, making the earth sing;
  34. but now is the time to advance, towards the windmills of Consuegra.
  35.
  39. From the very depths of my soul, I can hear the sound of your hooves, step by step;
  40. however, it is still far away, still faint. Were I to attach the bridle,
  41. will I be able to surpass that man's valiance, though lacking in even armaments?
  42.
  44. Dance and song; these are but what I am armed with.
  45.
  49. He served and protected the strict, disciplined knight; carried him, strong like a gale.
  50. O steed that once challenged the windmills of Consuegra,
  51. we can now grasp it; "let us chase and overtake him!" you bellow.
  52.
  58. I have neither a sword nor a lance;
  59. Though you are still far away, noble steed; guide me, for I have prepared myself.
  60. A zapateado striking upon the earth, fluttering in the sky;
  61. a zapateado that grows ever stronger; soars ever higher; shines ever brighter;
  62. yes, it is time to advance, towards the windmills of Consuegra.
  63.
  68. My zapateado accompanies the sound of those hooves;
  69. my zapateado grows, resounding higher; a rushing, powerful beat.
  70. to surpass the windmills of Consuegra,
  71. to chase and overtake that man; for the sake of surpassing him!
  72.
  73. *A style of dance in Spanish culture.
