- Registering with the California Pirate Party:
- The California Pirate Party is recognized by the state's election board, however the party is not listed as a qualified party nor as a party attempting to qualify.
- 104,000 Californians need register to vote under the 'California Pirate Party' before the party can qualify and run candidates under the Pirate flag. The state of California has a approx 27 million residents over the age of 18; of that total, only 0.4% of Californian adults are needed to qualify the California Pirate Party.
- Visit the California voter registration website http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/elections_vr.htm
- Or get a voter registration card from a local library, city or county offices, or place of higher education (university/college).
- When registering to vote, chose the option for 'other'. Then write in 'California Pirate Party'. Do not abbreviate the name of the party. (Correct: California Pirate Party / Incorrect: Cal Pirate Party, Pirate Party, California Pirate, etc)
- People associated with the California Pirate Party can run for office, but would be recognized as the state generically as Independent, not as California Pirate Party candidates, as the party has yet to qualify. A Pirate candidate in California can promote themselves as being associated with the California Pirate Party in fliers, mailers, online promotional material, etc.
