So now, Mirk sets out to do exactly that. He waits for windy days or those with storm clouds on the horizon, and he seeks out places in Arx where the wind might be felt most strongly. He spends time in the Stone Grove, listening to the chiming of the bells. He climbs the flights of stairs up to the ramparts that overlook Redrain Ward. He invites Juniper along for the trip, and acts on a suggestion she made to him weeks ago: Heading to the bell tower in the Great Cathedral of Arx.%r%r

On these outings, Mirk brings the shards of the Staff of Winds, acquired – and broken – in Cardia (Plot 635), one less since he helped in rituals to contact the Sea Wind (Action 3680). He has them bundled up tight, only unwrapping that bundle when he’s confident that he can keep them from being blown away and lost. He studies the pieces of the staff, and he studies the wind, hoping that if he listens closely enough, he might hear something.%r%r

After all, the Staff of Winds was an artifact with deep connections to the element of air, perhaps even to the Four Winds that he’s been told to seek and to learn from. Even if it’s broken, traces must remain of such powerful stories. Some hint of how it was crafted, or what power might still linger within it.%r%r

Perhaps, in learning more of the Staff of Winds, he can learn more about the stories of the air itself – and continue to walk the path he’s chosen.

I’m mostly expecting character growth and nudges in the right direction, rather than immediate answers.
