  1. This is my explanation of the Any% route as of my 11:57 PB.
  2. A lot of the route depends on visual references and cues so I recommend watching the fastest runs.
  3. Not everything is super clear while watching, so I hope to provide good detail here.
  4. My PB run (Fast gate skip / No Fuji skip) - https://youtu.be/TBXrXtRKVt8
  5.
  6. Notes:
  7. - You cannot start leaving Q's Factory until your car has turned around. For this reason you don't need to rush Papaya Factory visits.
  8. - There is a lot of unpredictability in the physics of the game. Not all of it can be worked around or set-up.
  9. - "Reverse braking" is my term for using Reverse as a means to slow down. It allows you to slow and turn without slipping.
  10. - The glitch to enter White House early has many different names like White House skip and Obama skip. I call it "Gate Skip".
  11.
  12. ---
  13. Overview:
  14. The point of Any% is to beat the game and become President as fast as possible. This has two requirements:
  15. 1. Become fast enough to beat the President.
  16. This is done by earning Jet Turbines (Jets) from Sandro and buying improved parts.
  17. To buy parts you need money, and the fastest way is through winning Roulette.
  18. With Jets the cheapest known set of parts required to beat the President costs $7,000.
  19. Betting all $1,000 starting money on a single number and winning results in $18,000.
  20. 2. Challenge the President.
  21. This typically requires playing the whole game and winning the World Grand Prix (WGP).
  22. This can be skipped using the Gate Skip glitch to enter the White House earlier than intended.
  23.
  24. Using this, the fastest known route to beating the game is broken down into the following sections:
  25. 1. Driving to Papaya Island.
  26. 2. Obtaining Jets.
  27. 3. Driving to Sandpolis.
  28. 4. Winning Roulette.
  29. 5. Driving to Cloud Hill and buying parts.
  30. 6. Entering the White House early.
  31. 7. Beating the President.
  32.
  33. Full Route:
  34. ---
  35. PART 1 - DRIVING TO PAPAYA
  36.
  37. Timing starts upon selecting "New Game".
  38. Quickly mash/menu through the intro cutscenes and leave Peach Factory. Make sure you reply with "Yes" when asked by Q.
  39. Turn right, and drive along the road, starting the drive to Papaya. Zoom out on the GPS.
  40. After the hill, turn left until the red triangle is roughly pointing towards the top-right green circle on the GPS.
  41. Jump off the cliff and start the underwater section. Follow the route used in my PB.
  42.
  43. Underwater:
  44. The goal is to keep an eye on your speed and maintain a high speed of 48/49 mph. Going over 50mph will cause you to shift up to 5th Gear which actually causes you to drive slower, so if this happens hit Reverse to go back to 4th Gear. A major part of getting Jets as fast as possible is the "Kerori cycle". The NPCs load in and start driving around during the water segment meaning a fast segment makes it much easier to make the fastest Kerori cycle.
  45.
  46. After the water segment use the tree/boardwalk as a visual reference for when/where to start the turn into the Factory.
  47. ---
  48. PART 2 - OBTAINING JETS
  49.
  50. Leave the factory and start following the dirt path up to "the Papaya jump".
  51.
  52. The Papaya Jump:
  53. The goal is to reach the jump with the highest speed possible. Taking the inside of the first few turns gives good speed. The shortest distance across the gap is located at the left-side of the jump, so I recommend starting the last turn near the outside. Also, being in a turning state right as you cross the gap will help conserve vertical speed better. Losing speed after the jump is okay but can affect whether you make the Kerori Cycle.
  54.
  55. After the jump, turn right into Sandro's hut. Be careful not to get caught on the weird geometry of the hut.
  56. Agree to help Sandro and leave, turning left. Drive back down the dirt path and turn left to the dirt tunnel.
  57. Slow down slightly and turn left to jump out the tunnel. Slowing down avoids bouncing off the wall.
  58. Drive into and talk to Kerori. Where she is depends on how fast you were for everything since the underwater segment.
  59. If you make the fast cycle you can talk to her in front of the second-closest bush.
  60. If you don't make the cycle you need to go after her, referred to as a "Kerori chase".
  61.
  62. Drive back up the water path and reverse/drive up the wall to the dirt tunnel. This is the "Papaya wall climb".
  63. This requires reversing parallel to the wall then steering left to latch onto it and drive up.
  64. After getting onto the wall, keep reversing and steer right to re-align yourself horizontal with the wall.
  65. Turn left slightly and drive up the wall to the opening to drive into dirt tunnel.
  66. Getting onto the wall is very random. The game will often refuse to latch you on or will throw you off.
  67. Once on the wall, the rest of the trick is 100% consistent, just make sure your initial angle isn't too steep.
  68.
  69. Drive back to Sandro's house and turn into his hut. He will reward you with the Jets.
  70.
  71. ---
  72. PART 3 - DRIVING TO SANDPOLIS
  73.
  74. Warp to Peach, equip the Jets, and leave.
  75. Start driving and boosting towards Fuji, being mindful of fuel consumption.
  76. I like to use the 200-217 rule. Boost to full speed (217mph), then release. Once you drop to 200mph, boost to 217mph again.
  77. If going for Fuji skip you are fine to boost as much as you like for the first segment.
  78. Use the hills as a visual cue of where to go. Once you start approaching the bridge, decide on whether you will use Fuji skip.
  79.
  80. No Fuji Skip:
  81. Do a hard turn left onto the bridge while boosting. Good luck avoiding obstacles.
  82. If you're going to go over the lip in the centre of the bridge, hold right. If lucky you will glide over it.
  83. Drive down the bridge using the 200-217 rule and refuel at Heizo's house. Say "No" and leave, turning left.
  84. Drive around the Fuji building/trees. I like to boost and turn, and start reverse-braking once I pass 100mph.
  85. Boost along the edge of the moat to the bridge. Go over, and drive to the right of the highway.
  86. While going over the bridge, don't boost or go full-speed otherwise you risk getting caught on the highway.
  87. Drive/boost along the sand towards Roulette. You have enough fuel to consistently boost.
  88.
  89. Fuji Skip:
  90. Fuji skip is very risky but can save a couple seconds.
  91. Instead of going over the Fuji bridge, refuel at the closest Quick-Pic. Say "No" and leave, turning right.
  92. Drive to the base of the bridge and boost onto the lip in the centre. Boost along the bridge using the 200-217 rule.
  93. When nearing Fuji, slightly veer left so your tyres go off the centre platform. You will magically float onto the Fuji trees.
  94. While using the 200-217 rule, boost along the top of the trees hoping that you jump over both gaps.
  95. Jump off at the end onto the bridge and drive to the right of the highway.
  96. Drive/boost along the sand towards Roulette using the 200-217 rule.
  97.
  98. Once you near the Roulette building, line-up with the corner/edge of the lip on the left-side.
  99. Boost to full speed, but release right before you hit the lip. This will usually cause you to jump the fence.
  100. Turn around, then drive/boost to Roulette.
  101.
  102. ---
  103. PART 4 - ROULETTE
  104.
  105. Agree to play Roulette. Choose the number using the strategy you want and bet $1,000 with a down input.
  106. Carefully drive down to the edge of the board, and wait for the best time to gas/boost.
  107. After winning, leave roulette and warp to Papaya Island.
  108.
  109. Roulette:
  110. Roulette is really tricky because it requires a ~2 frame-perfect timing and also the speed of the roulette wheel is random.
  111. If you're learning, feel free to save at Sandpolis Factory first.
  112. You can also consider betting $500 instead for two attempts.
  113. To reduce the effect of the random speed I recommend starting from the edge of the board.
  114. Starting from the centre is a bit faster but is less reliable.
  115. I pick the number 6 because it is easiest to menu to and also has an easy visual cue.
  116. I watch for the location of the green "00" on the roulette board, and press gas/boost when it is on the right-side of my screen.
  117. With practice/experience I can tell when the board is faster/slower and adjust my timing accordingly.
  118.
  119. ---
  120. PART 5 - CLOUD HILL / PARTS
  121.
  122. Leave the Papaya Factory, and drive/boost into the water at the end of the beach.
  123. If you come in at a wide angle you can collide with the wall to help slow you down.
  124. Reverse up the wall while submerged, and re-angle yourself to be horizontal.
  125. This climb is significantly more consistent than the other Papaya wall climb.
  126. Turn and drive/boost up the side of the wall to the ledge at the top. Turn around and face the Cloud Hill warper.
  127. Slow down as you reach the ledge to avoid getting too much air or flying off.
  128. Drive off the cliff at the required angle and enter the warper building. Agree to warp.
  129. Drive to the Parts store and buy the required parts, then go to Cloud Hill Factory and equip them before leaving.
  130. You can also opt for the Papaya parts store instead, it's slightly easier and only 1-2 seconds slower.
  131.
  132. Parts to buy:
  133. Racing Tyres
  134. Long MAD Engine
  135. Speed Transmission
  136. x2Quick Steering
  137.
  138. If you opted for only $500 from Roulette, skip the Engine and downgrade to Power Transmission.
  139.
  140. ---
  141. PART 6 - WHITE HOUSE
  142.
  143. Drive through Cloud Hill to the White House gate.
  144. I recommend braking near the top of each rainbow ramp to reduce/prevent airtime.
  145. Perform Gate Skip to get into the White House.
  146. Advance the Gateman dialogue as you fly, and wait on the final textbox to time the entrance.
  147. Mash through the menus and accept to race the President.
  148.
  149. Gate Skip:
  150. The White House gate has a strange geometry that causes you be to pushed back when colliding with it. The trick with gate skip is to get the gate push-back on the same frame that you collide with the gateman. This preserves the push-back velocity during the dialogue and allows you to fly across Cloud Hill, wrap-around the world, and fly into the White House loading zone.
  151.
  152. Regular Gate Skip:
  153. The regular method is to drive up the rainbow path and talk to the Gateman on the left. After, push him to the centre of the gate, and drive into the corner between him and the gate. This should line you up to perfectly hit the Gateman one frame too early. Reverse and do a tiny steer to the right to compensate. Then, drive/boost into the corner to get the glitch. The line-up step is usually skipped, but can be really useful if learning.
  154.
  155. Fast Gate Skip:
  156. The faster method is to quickly drive up the centre of the rainbow path and turn left while colliding into the gate to the right of the Gateman hoping to get the glitch. The trick is a lot more chaotic and random, but saves 8 seconds over the alternative version. Due to the positioning, you will usually be slightly too far to the left of the White House loading zone. To compensate, you have to steer left and hold gas/boost when clearing the final Gateman textbox. Because you're technically stuck in a wall, this will cause you to rotate, causing the back corner of your hitbox to reach the loading zone.
  157.
  158. ---
  159. PART 7 - PRESIDENT RACE
  160.
  161. Beat the President. It's recommended you practice this race before doing runs.
  162. Be mindful of fuel, your gauge should be blinking no earlier than the final turn of lap 2.
  163. I recommend knowing your strategy/speed for every turn to keep things consistent.
  164.
