Being someone with a strong devotion towards Azrael, this was something that made Talthamet prideful to be an Oscuri. As always he tries to serve Lord Azrael in the best ways he can, such was his reason of joining the Bulwark and coming to Agartha. This is a way to show his worth to the god and prove himself to the others of his race as well as the lesser ones.
