  3. Could Second World War be prevented?
  4.
  5. The critical reason for the Second World War is often considered in terms of the Treaty of Versailles as a natural consequence of the end of the First World War. It was the final end of conflict between Germany and the Allied Powers. Germany, as it is commonly known, were one of the main aggressors in the First World War and then in the 'Second'. Nevertheless, it is also known that they finally lost and therefore had to be punished by other nations. The main reason for it was that the other nations were afraid of German in the future. It was almost clear that they will want to recover and double their powers in order to strike again. That was something articles within the Treaty of Versalles tried to achieve: to decelerate the process of Germany recovering and prevent future outcome. The exterme national debt was enforced and harsh reinforcements such as large reparations and losing German army was put upon. This caused high unemployment rates and the failure of Weimar Republic. Germany’s state of depression cause by the treaty made Hitler’s rise to power easier because the citizens wanted a more radical leader that promised them change. Once Hitler was in power, his quest for European domination and revenge for the treaty was inevitable. If the Treaty of Versailles was less harsh towards Germany or if Wilson’s fourteen points were instead of the treaty World War 2 could have possibility been prevented.
  6. Another concept to prevent the World War 2 was a total failure of League of Nations. Their lack of real military might and a standing army is to be blamed. They tried to enforce many decisions to German but there was a lack of practical enforcement. The goal was very impressive - they tried to put a great effort in order to prevent any aggression but unfortunetaley they had no support in physical might. There was also no real responsibility for countires which belonged to League of Nations and they were free to join or leave it at any time. So did Germany in 1933 without any consequences. It allowed Hitler to invade.
  7. The world after World War I was a dramatic place to live, full of unresolved issues such as international distrust, resented economic difficulties, and depression appearing through society. Political conditions that existed after World War One created a tense atmosphere filled with international distrust, and aggression. Treaty of Versailles, which formally ended the war, did little to address the unresolved issues and actually promoted international distrust and resentment. Therefore world leaders should have addressed these problems and taken steps in order to recreate international trust and rebuilld economics system from scratch. That's why I beleve that it were post-conditions left after World War I that were mainly responsble for the breakout of World War II. More and more tension and aggressive politcal atmosphere should have been reduced. It was a great success of Germany who all shared common goal to full restoration based on glory in the past. Hitler was a person who shared this goal to people and gained their attention. After regaining power in Germany he began to rearm Germany and it was the first opportuinity for the Allied powers to stop him as it violated the Treaty of Versailles. But as we know, they didn't and he succeeded to rearm double powered.
  8. But World War II didn't have to end up like this. Hitler's invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941 proved to be his undoing, but it didn't have to go this way. After the fall of France a year earlier, Hitler could have in fact invade Great Britain. Preparations began in earnest, with both the British and Americans convinced that an invasion was imminent. As some historians believe Hitler in fact knew that he'd die young, which motivated him to make his dream of unbeatable Germany come true. History's most notorious gambler decided to make his move.
