  1. Generally speaking, Britain has always been Protestant while continental Europe has always been Catholic, which may explain the 'bias' (in the King James Bible's preface the Pope is called "the man of sin"). As for Plaisted, of course it's anti-Catholic because it exposes Papal atrocities. The bias I see today is that the truth about the Papacy has been sacrificed on the altar of political correctness. In 2017, during the 'celebrations' of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, the millions who were burned alive at the stake weren't even mentioned - as if it never happened. It's admittedly not easy to verify the accounts as we don't have complete inquisition records. However, both history and the Bible confirm that the Papacy has reigned for 1,260 years, and the figure which comes up the most is 50-60 million 'heretics' killed (much higher numbers if one includes the Spanish territories in America). In the OT the Papal Dynasty is "the horn which made war against the 'set-apart ones' [true believers] and prevailed", and in the NT it is "the woman who was drunk with the blood of the 'set-apart ones' [true believers]." In the NT, Papal Rome is also called "The Son of Perdition", "Babylon the Great", "The Great Whore", "The Wicked One", "The Lawless One", and “The Synagogue of Satan”. The Papacy is not a Christian church - it only masquerades as one. What kind of church forbids to read the Bible? What kind of church murders people for possessing or reading a Bible? What kind of 'Christians' say, "Convert or Die!" Yes, the Papacy who introduced ghettos, the badge of shame, anti-Jewish legislation, etc. killed millions of Jews during the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition, but her main victims by far were true believers in Yeshua Messiah. All the Reformers (Tyndale, Wycliffe, Calvin, et al.) identified the Papacy as Antichrist. 'Heretics' and 'Judaizers' such as the Waldenses, the Huguenots, the Albigenses, etc., many of which kept the Torah, they were all killed. Anyone not submitting to Rome with her lawless, idolatrous sun-worship was killed, that is an undeniable historical fact; the last Protestants were burned alive in Italy in 1866.

  3. Now, coming back to your question - I don't have much contemporary literature, because the modern sources are usually more politically correct. If you want to understand who 'the church" really is (i.e. the Roman Catholic Church), then Alexander Hislop's "The Two Babylons", published in 1853 is a must (on the Internet); it will explain why the Papacy is evil, and why it's not from God (but a counterfeit from the adversary). I also highly recommend Brad Molles, The Beast and The Bride, Interpreting Revelation in the light of history, 2004. The Book of Revelation says a lot about the Papacy in symbolic language, no wonder people were forbidden to read it for centuries. Lastly, H. Grattan Guinness', The Approaching End of the Age - Viewed in the Light of History, Prophecy and Science, 1882. The 700-page book touches many other things, - still, I am mentioning it because it also exposes the Papacy as a diabolic state-church union during the Dark Ages dressed up as 'Christian'. These books won't give more accurate numbers of the victims, but they will definitely reveal Rome's wickedness.
