  1. This is a beginner's guide on how to setup your soku for competitive play (SECTION 1) as well as what to expect from a tournament environment (SECTION 2) to ensure that things run smoothly.
  2.
  3. This guide assumes you have the complete soku installation (ver 1.10a with sokuroll and 20 characters). If you do not then type !game in #hisoutensoku on Discord (https://discord.gg/dXMZYdc).
  4.
  5. Remember, if you are having trouble please PM myself (Coco) or a Computer Wizard on Discord. If none of us are online, try asking in #soku-questions.
  6.
  7. ======================================================================
  8. SECTION 1: Playing online
  9.
  10. How to boot up soku for online play:
  11. 1) Open soku application
  12. 2) Run SokuRollLoader.exe
  13.
  14. After booting up soku correctly, there are two ways to connect to others and play your matches:
  15.
  16. 1) Portforwarding (requires physical access to your router)
  17. fishshapedfish has a written guide on this: https://pastebin.com/YYaj7W52
  18.
  19. 2) Hamachi
  20. You must download, install and register for Hamachi:
  21. https://goo.gl/SGR2NK
  22.
  23. You can either setup the connection yourself (HOSTER) or connect to someone else's connection (JOINER).
  24.
  25. If you are the HOSTER, then add a network using the networks tab with a username and password. You will give this information to the JOINER so they can join your Hamachi network, this includes sharing the IP with them (located here https://goo.gl/BGvRNz - screenshot provided by Nivenfaal). You can use any port with Hamachi however the default port soku uses is 10800. Example IP: 25.10.181.201:10800. Afterwards, the HOSTER should setup the connection in soku (Vs Networks > Server Setup).
  26.
  27. If you are the JOINER, enter the Hamachi network username and password provided by the HOSTER under networks tab. You will then copy the IP they give and go into soku (Vs Network > Connect to IP from Clipboard). You should have successfully joined after this!
  28.

  30. SECTION 2: Tournaments
  31.
  32. (BEFORE) JOINING TOURNAMENTS
  33. To enter tournaments you will find challonge links on the Discord server in #announcements. PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ THE RULES TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT WHEN YOU ARE DISQUALIFIED. Tournaments are often hosted in #tourney-channel (you can only see this channel if you press the tick or checkmark under [@Tournament] in #role-toggle). The tournament start time is found in the challonge link. This is the time you must check-in on challonge to confirm you are able to play (if the tourney has them).
  34.
  35. DURING TOURNAMENTS
  36. At the challonge start time the organiser/s start SEEDING (This is the process that decides who you play against!). This process can take a while and often lasts for 10 - 25 minutes. You will receive a Discord mention by one of the tournament organiser/s when the tournament has officially started. The challonge link for the tournament has a real-time bracket display, this is where you will see your opponents! You should mention your opponent by using @TheirName in order to contact them. You can now communicate how you will connect to each other using the above methods in SECTION 1.
  37.
  38. After connecting, you will need to play your matches! The first game is usually a delay test. This means you will be testing the game for lag or delay. With sokuroll you can use +/- to increase or decrease delay respectively to ensure the game is as smooth as you can make it. After playing, it's good ettiquette to say "gg" to your opponent no matter how frustrated you are. You must also refer back to challonge where you will need to report your scores (there is a small notepad icon on your bracket). This progresses the tournament to the next round where you will get another opponent. Double Elimination tournaments means you have to lose twice (overall against two opponents) before you are out of the tournament completely.

  41.
  42. In conclusion, I hope this guide really helped you understand how to setup online play and gave you a general understanding of how tournaments work in the hisouten community.
  43.
  44. Again, if there are any questions, don't feel afraid to ask in #soku-questions or PM!
  45.
  46. Happy fighting!
  47. Coco
  48.
  49. *With special thanks to Nivenfaal, SuperCuccoSaiyan and Doc Shoebox for Hamachi information.
