- Alfie's Injury
- --------------
- On Saturday 9 May 2026, Alfie was involved in a (suspected) collision with a car which caused a femoral fracture in his rear left leg in 2 places.
- After discovering he was injured, he was immediately taken to the emergency vets for urgent care where pain relief was administered and the fracture was confirmed via x-ray:

- X-Ray 2: https://ibb.co/cchdRVG3
- Following successful surgery to repair the break and pin his leg, he is now at home recovering.

- Recovery
- --------
- Alfie has already been showing excellent recovery signs in the 24-hours post surgery and is now starting a 12-week recovery journey at home. This will involve:
- - 6 weeks of strict crate rest
- - 6 weeks of monitored indoor rest
- He has a follow-up visit with the vets on 16 June 2026 to check the recovery of the bone.
- Crate Rest
- ----------
- The first part of the recovery is crate rest. This means confining him to a small crate/tent to prevent him from being able to run, jump, or otherwise place too much strain on his leg.
- This part of the recovery is VITAL to ensuring he regains full use and strength in his leg and to allow him to live a normal life once this is over.
- The crate size is intentionally small to prevent further injury and has been checked and verified for size and suitability by the medical team who were looking after him. While it may feel cruel to confine him to such a small space, it is entirely in his best interest and is REQUIRED to ensure he does not refracture his leg while the bone heals.
- While he does not have any other injuries (he has been scanned multiple times at great cost to confirm...) he may occasionally pass some blood in his urine for the next few days. This is expected and normal for such a major injury.
- Loaf Cam
- --------
- Alfie is popular within the Club601 community and there are many people interested in his recovery. I have placed 2 cameras in the crate to allow the community to follow his recovery on stream and for us to keep an eye on him.
- It goes without saying that Alfie has undergone major surgery and, as such, you will see things such as his swollen leg, possibly discharge or small amounts of blood from the wound, and scaring/sutures. This is all completely normal, but I understand this may make some people uncomfortable. I ask that, if this does affect you negatively, that you simply find something else to watch.
- During the early days, you will see him hobble around, limp, or possible fall over. This is completely normal and expected and is not a sign of further damage, injury (beyond the obvious), or anything to be concerned about. The fact he is bearing weight on the leg is an excellent sign and one we need to safely encourage.
- Alfie will also be made to wear a buster collar (more commonly known as the cone of shame!) to prevent him from interfering with his wounds. This is another vital step to prevent the metal plates/pins and incision from becoming infected. This shouldn't affect his ability to eat or drink, and we will do our best to keep it off of him to allow him greater comfort. Overnight however (while we sleep) it is required.
- Alfie's Care and Ongoing Concerns
- ---------------------------------
- While it is normal to have concerns over Alfie's current state, I want to assure you that we have him strictly monitored. I work from home and he is literally right next to me, and the cameras allow me to see into the crate at all times from inside.
- The recovery process is not easy and he may appear at times to be distressed, uncomfortable, or in pain. We have medication to give him on a strict schedule and will do so in line with his medical team's expectations.
- I ask that, even if you think he is in trouble or needs help, not to contact me via DM or other means to express this. Alfie's care and recovery is our top priority above everything. We will put Loaf Cam onto the break scene, or turn the stream off entirely, if required.
- Finances
- --------
- Likewise, while his injury and care has been a significant financial hit to our future plans (saving for a house deposit), his care and recovery takes precedence over any costs we incur. He will continue to be treated with everything he needs to give him the best possible quality of life and recovery from this injury.
- I want to be clear that we are in a position where we are financially safe and secure and can afford this. Please do not worry about the cost of his care, we will be 100% fine.
- We do not need a fundraiser/donations to help afford his care and I will not be asking for any.
