The Redspire Tower, a moderately-sized stone structure, is a vital defensive position for the town of Sylhaven. Unfortunately for the town, the soldiers tasked with protecting and holding watch in the tower are not the most reliable of folk. On the eve of the Equinox Fair, the lot of them left their posts to join the festivities in town. At dawn, the guards, hungover and aching from a night sleeping on the tavern floor, returned to find the tower infested by kobolds. Too ashamed to go the Captain with bad news, and unable to reclaim the tower themselves (their equipment sits in the tower, abandoned before the night of festivities), the soldiers drown their sorrows in a local pub, hoping that some brave group of adventure-seekers will come to their aid.
