  10. That's 8 speedrunning marathons I've been involved in, all but one as an active volunteer.
  11.
  12. Before I go any further, this isn't a tell all, this isn't me going to be talking shit about anyone, and I'm not trying to speak ill of GDQ, RPGLB, or Speedrunning. So if you're looking for something drama filled, uh, sorry to disappoint.
  13.
  14. But with that being said, my interest in attending further events has diminished quite a bit since Summer 2018. I think at this point it's pretty safe to say I'll be skipping RPGLB2019, and likely will skip SGDQ2019 as well.
  15.
  16. I think the biggest single reason is that I'm just kind of burnt out on live attendance of marathons. That isn't to say it's bad. If you're reading this, have never attended, and are considering it? You absolutely should do it. It's totally worth going once to see if it's your thing. But I've now spent two months of my life at these events. And while I don't want to say it's gotten boring, it no longer has the same fresh and new vibe it once had.
  17.
  18. Which wouldn't be so bad, except these events take up money, and more importantly, time. With only having a few weeks of paid time off a year, burning a week for a speedrun marathon is no small consideration. It means if i want to do AGDQ, SGDQ, and RPGLB, it effectively leaves me no time to do anything else. These events for me also aren't cheap. Considering I've gone into these with a vacation mentality in mind, I often spend about 1700 bucks in a week, flight and hotel included. Yes, I absolutely could do these trips for far less money. No, the costs are not why I'm walking away. But being unable to do much else if I choose to attend these events means I have to choose between attending speedruns, or doing other vacations.
  19.
  20. So, what's next? I dunno. I've been meaning to go to Europe. Maybe take a cruise or two. I've also got a condo now and I'd like to do some renovations, which aren't cheap either. Am I saying I'll never do a GDQ or RPGLB or other event again? Absolutely not. Maybe the itch to go, or a desire to see old friends going, will be there.
  21.
  22. Besides, how can you miss me if I never go away? ;)
