  1. In this lab we used 3 different microphone configurations: XY, A-B, and ORTF. A-B has the two microphones parallel to each other about 2 feet apart. X-Y has the two microphones at an angle to each other close together. ORTF has the two microphones angled away from each other, with one on top of the other. In order to set up these configurations we altered the height, and rotation of the microphone stands to suit each configuration.

  3. The ORTF recording provides the best sound quality. When we separate the stereo recording into individual tracks and play with the pan control, keeping them in the centre makes no difference to the sound because we are hearing the sound evenly distributed. When we reverse the tracks it mutes the sound because they cancel each other out. Regardless of which configuration is selected modifying the pan controls to opposite sides, will cancel out the sound.
