  1. Armed Police Batrider, 1998 Raizing, Arcade - I play Japan Version B

  3.
  4. Mini-guide for understanding a scoring run in the Advanced Course:
  5.
  6. -Advanced Course is the game's primary gameplay mode which features all 7 core stages, unlike Normal Course which only has 5 core stages.
  7. -Advanced Course, unlike Normal Course features a strict dynamic difficulty system (Rank) in which the player is careful of doing certain things to avoid the difficulty becoming too high (faster bullets, more enemies, more enemy health when rank gets high).
  8.
  9.
  10. Basics
  11.
  12. Game Power-Ups
  13.
  14. -Small Shot (blue): Need 5? of these to power up your main shot one level.
  15. -Big Shot (blue): Instantly level up shot power (to a max of 5, 6 requires a special shot powerup)
  16. -Option (Green): Gains an Option or adds fire-power to option.
  17. -Small Weapon (red): Collect a ton of these to build a full Weapon. Weapon is this game's terminology for bombs.
  18. -Full Weapon (red): A whole bomb added to stock.
  19.
  20. -Shot Special: Let 3 small shot items fall off screen then pick up a 4th, achieves power-level 6 in one go.
  21. -Option Special: Let 3 option power-ups fall off screen then pick up a 4th, achieves power-level 6 in one go.
  22. -Extend Special (Weapon): Leave 3 full Weapons (bombs) behind and an extend will drop from the next few enemies.
  23. -Extend Special (Extends): Leave 3 Extends behind and the next extend will give you a full life stock.
  24.
  25.
  26. Game Basics
  27.
  28. -Cannot exceed a 3 life stock.
  29. -Extends are rewarded every 1.5 million points in the form of an item drop from an enemy when the point threshold is reached.
  30. -Bomb items grant full invincibility for the entire duration of the bomb.
  31. -When you cease firing, your ship charges an offensive protective Aura in front of the ship. When you resume firing, a charge shot is released for about ~10 seconds which gives a max power attack during that time. This charge shot also places your options in a stationary position for that time.
  32. -The Battle Garegga characters have the ability of Option Control via the use of Button 3 to cycle through 5 different option formations for versatility of combat. The cycle is Wide > Back > Forward > Surround > Directional (Options are aimed via ship movement).
  33.
  34. Scoring
  35.
  36. Scoring is made up from multiple facilities.
  37.
  38. 1. Killing bosses rewards a decent point bonus. If you fight more bosses in the run, that's more huge chunks of points.
  39. 2. Boss dissection: many bosses have respawning enemies or parts that can be leeched for points before the boss changes to another phase and ultimately times out.
  40. 3. Building a medal chain up and collecting 10K medals. Collect all medals on screen, then reveal and collect another to increase the value of the medals. This goes from 100pts>200pts ~ 1000pts>2000pts ~ all the way up to 10,000pt medals.
  41. 4. Destroying enemies with Aura or Bombs will generally reward more points than just shooting those targets down. The difference between 1000pts vs 10,000pts for some targets.
  42. A. Furthermore, some targets are worth more for destroying them with Non-Piercing Shots rather than Piercing. Since some of the characters that have piercing attacks are quite strong, they aren't rewarded with these Non-Piercing Target Bonuses.
  43. B. Furthermore, there are background scenery objects that can only be destroyed with Bomb items, an example are the escalators in the Airport stage which contain medals once destroyed.
  44.
  45. Survival & Scoring
  46.
  47. To survive advanced course you typically will need to do some bit of scoring, because you need lives to lose to reduce the rank as the game goes on.
  48.
  49. 1. The single biggest way to reduce rank (dynamic difficulty) is to have a death on your 2nd life in stock.
  50. A. Because of this, when doing a scoring run you may have 2 lives in stock and you're about to reach the next 1UP point threshold. When this happens, a tactical suicide is needed.
  51. A. The reason a tactical suicide is needed is because picking up extra life items on 2 stock or 3 stock lives, is a detriment to your rank compared to picking them up on your last stock.
  52.
  53. 2. The second biggest way to prevent rank from getting too high is DO NOT PICK UP EXCESSIVE ITEMS. In particular, Big Shot powerups and Option powerups. Full Bomb items also raise rank quite a bit.
  54.
  55.
  56.
  57. This information should give you an idea of the kind of game and run Armed Police Batrider is, please enjoy and why don't you try the game out for yourself? Get the MAME emulator, a rom (Japan version B preferred.) Normal Course is much more approachable as a traditional shmup, than the Advanced Course in this game.
