- Another late night at work. My eyes glance to the red glow of digital numbers reflecting the late hour. I smirk, here I was up late at what was once considered a dare to fates.
- I’m sure you remember those times too… I know I do. Sure, I did the late night shit in college. Everyone does, the final rush before that damn exam. The cram for the Mid-term accompanied by energy drinks and the study friends you couldn’t do without. But it was a different atmosphere. No, I’m talking about the times when it was late and dark. You had just read or seen something that made your senses heighten. Every sound amplified, every shadow sharpened, your world was detailed to the point where you could swear you could feel the energies change.
- Welcome to my world now, instead of having it once in a while like most normal people. I have it every day and every night. Even the blessing of the daylight is no charm against my reality. Because, unlike before it doesn’t go away.
- I remember those times; giggling under the blanket with a flashlight as your best bud told you some ghost story that chilled you to the bone. Playing bloody Mary with the other girls from your school at the slumber party. Or the time when you had the bad dream and went to Mom for comfort cause you could’ve sworn when you woke up there were shadow tendrils moving on your walls. Nice thing about those times were, once Mom was there, once the daylight came, it was over.
- The monsters were no longer real.
- It’s kinda like losing your innocence all over again, learning what really exists out there messes with you. You begin to wonder what is real and what isn’t before coming to the same fucking conclusion that it probably is real and probably will fucking kill you. It isn’t that same world anymore. Sure you lived in a world filled with fiends and ghouls but now you live in a world full of scips and anomalies. All means the same damn thing. All means you're screwed but fun thing is instead of going away it doesn’t. It stays, it permeates your thoughts and your soul.
- A small creak brings me back. The sound probably softer than anything I would normally pick up outside of my meditations, it causes me to pause and look up and around, probably was nothing, everything is safely contained. Right? That’s what we are supposed to do. But the weird thing about anomalies are is in their name. Who knows which we haven’t contained and where they are.
- They are probably safely contained… that’s what they want you to think.
- Sure... they are safe as long as contained properly.
- Sure you are ok... as long as it is contained.
- All it takes is for one chance encounter, one scip not yet discovered. And you’ll find out too. You’ll discover the crazy world I live. You’ll discover that hell I treasure cause now it is all I know. It can do all sorts of things… all sorts of deaths and mental effects. Oh the fun you will have, sure you think. It is so cool, all I ever wanted, I want to help, I want to see. But you really don’t.
- The monsters are real.
- They don’t go away with the light.
- And once you see them. You can never unsee the world as it truly is.
