  1. How To Play Moxie
  2.
  3. About the Game.
  4. Moxie is a fairly fast paced game thats similar in nature to Blackjack and Texas Holdem, it's a game of luck, probability and bluffing. The game was designed to be played betwen 2-6 players but can be played with up to 10. In the deck are 25 Cards, 5 for each point score value ranging from 2-6. The object of the Game is to have the Highest Point Score at the end of a round or be the last player in the pot.
  5.
  6. Setup.
  7. Shuffle the deck and place where it says: Deck. Each Player Starts the Game with 3 Gold, 15 Silver, and 25 Copper for betting purposes (or use poker chips however you like). Decide who will start the first round however you like, this Player gets the Blind Bet Token, the Player to the Left of him gets the Dealer Token. These Tokens will pass to the Left at the end of each round.
  8.
  9. How to play a Round.
  10. A Round is played in betting steps. First Players are Dealt 2 Cards Each. Once players are dealt their cards the Blind Bet Player starts the pot, and thus commences a round of betting. Once players have all checked or folded we move to the next step.
  11.
  12. Place the Top Card of the Deck on the Table, this Card is called the Ringer. Player Hands now consist of their 2 cards in hand and the Ringer. There are 5 potential hand states (See "Hands"). The player who Open the Blind Bet opens this round of betting unless they folded in which case it goes to the player on the left of them. Once players have all checked or folded we move to the next step.
  13.
  14. Each player at the same time now reveals a card from their hand and places it in front of them on the table, this is your "Punch Card". The player who Open the Blind Bet opens this round of betting unless they folded in which case it goes to the player on the left of them. Bets may pass around the table twice at which point betting ends and players must reveal their cards. The player with the Highest Point Score or Full Moxie takes the pot. If 2 players are tied for point score consult the "Hands" page for the hand hierarchy, the better hand takes the pot. If 2 players are tied for point score and neither has a higher hand than the other you split the pot or, house rules Highest Kicker or Highest Pair wins the pot.
  15.
  16. Keep playing till one player hold all the coins or until you've had your fun.

  19. "Hand Hierarchy"
  20.
  21. These are the 5 Hand States from Worst to Best in Hierarchy.
  22.
  23. - No pairs, singular point score cards. In this case your point score is the cumulative value of the 3 cards.
  24.
  25. - Table pair, a card in your hand matches the one on the table. In this case your non paired card aka β€œKicker” has its point score doubled.
  26.
  27. - Hand pair, the cards in your hand are a matching pair. Card on the table (Ringer) becomes your Kicker with point score doubled. A Hand pair wins over a table pair in a tie break.
  28.
  29. - Triple pair, cards in your hand and table have the same point score. Both your hand cards become Kickers with points score doubled. (In other terms your final point score in a round is 5*[the matching card value], for instance triple 3 is 15 points and triple 6 is 30).
  30.
  31. - Full Moxie, hand and table cards are 2,3,4. Despite being the lowest pointscore possible, this hand beats all other hands and will always take the pot.
  32.
  33. ----------------------------------------------------------------
  34. This game was first designed to be a card game to play with my friends during our dnd sessions. It didn't feel right in our fantasy world that people just "played poker" and we actually want to play cards when it came up, because of this I designed Moxie, a simple yet competitive card game for all ages. The game was designed in a way as to not be too complex, long or taxing on the mind so that you can enjoy conversations and do other things quite easily while you play.
