  1. PUBG's audio is not what people in media would call "broadcast safe". You're expected to listen for near-silent footsteps and then you get blasted in the face with a shotgun and you're left with bleeding eardrums. Enter the audio compressor... https://imgur.com/XzU9OzZ
  2.
  3. I have taken a post from OpA_Calypse on the PUBG forums and I’ve found a simpler way to achieve the same effect. Much credit to him. He’s the audio guy. I couldn’t get his method to work so I had to find a workaround. https://forums.playbattlegrounds.com/topic/15386-how-to-guide-for-windowsgame-audio-compression/?tab=comments#comment-70791
  4.
  5. Get VB Audio Cable & Install http://vb-audio.pagesperso-orange.fr/Cable/#DownloadCable Install if you get the message you need to run as administrator, right click on the above exe, properties > compatibility > privilege level - V Run this prg as admin > APPLY ! *reboot
  6.
  7. Download & Install Pedalboard 2 http://www.niallmoody.com/apps/pedalboard2
  8.
  9. Get SAFE Compressor by Semantica Audio https://github.com/semanticaudio/SAFE/releases/download/1.32/SAFEPlugins-1.32-WindowsVST-64Bit.zip
  10.
  11. Open ZIP and copy SAFECompressor.dll to your hard drive. I just copied it to the pedalboard 2 folder.
  12.
  13. open pedalboard 2 > options > plugin list > available plugins > options > scan for new vst plugins > select "c:\vst plugins" in the list if that is the directory you used (or pedalboard 2 folder if you copied it there like me.)
  14. pedalboard 2 > options > audio settings > set audio device type: Windows Audio
  15. pedalboard 2 > options > audio settings > set output: (your soundcard)
  16. pedalboard 2 > options > audio settings > set input: CABLE OUTPUT OpA: “You can set the sample rate and latency to whatever you prefer or already use. I suspect it autodetects your current settings so you can leave the sample rate. My pedalboard latency is set to 480 samples in this chain, but if the audio stutters a bit you can always set it higher until you have no problems. I only have audio stuttering at the starting island when everyone is screaming at the same time.”
  17. COLLIDOSCOPE’S NOTE: I kept getting an error here that said something like “sampling rate of devices are different”. If you look at my screenshot, https://imgur.com/XzU9OzZ in the bottom right of the VB Audio window, you’ll see “Output 44100Hz”. I had to go to my Sound Panel in windows, go to the properties of my headphones and change them from 48000Hz to 44100Hz and this solved the problem.
  18.
  19. Now you have created the following chain: windows audio -> VB Cable -> Pedalboard with VST loading capability > soundcard output
  20.
  21. The best reason to use VB cable is that it lets you keep your old, normal audio settings as before and you can select that back in Windows Sound instead of this VST chain. In some rare occasions (once a week) pedalboard 2 doesn't send audio through when starting up, total silence, I solve that by switching the pedalboard 2 audio settings output back and forth, it will work then. I think it just needs to reload itself or something.
  22.
  23. in pedalboard 2,
  24. if needed, expand or fullscreen the pedalboard 2 window so you can see the input and the output modules
  25. left-double mouseclick between the input and output modules, select safecompressor (standalone). You have now created the compressor
  26. connect audio input module "input 1+2" to safecompressor "main input L+R" by dragging lines between them from connection to connection
  27. connect safecompressor stand alone module "compressed output 1+2" to audio output module "output 1+2"
  28. on the safecompressor stand alone module, press "e" to view SAFE Compressor (see my screenshot if you want to try out the settings I use. https://imgur.com/XzU9OzZ ) Save them in SAFE Compressor.
  29. In order to activate Pedalboard 2, hit the "Play" button at the bottom of the window. Play some audio through windows like an mp3, youtube video to test if it works. You'll be able to see a yellow ball on the SAFE Compressor graph moving around in realtime showing you the audio level of the sound input.
  30. Pedalboard 2 > File > save as > (save the *.pdl file somewhere as backup)
  31. Pedalboard 2 > File > save as default (now it automatically loads the VST chain and SAFE Compressor settings when you start pedalboard 2).
  32. This will get you going but might not get you all of the way there, so please refer to the original post.
  33.
  34. PLEASE refer to OpA_Calypse original post for the technical aspects of this process. I can’t guarantee any of this will work. It worked for me and I’m very happy I was able to find his post. See my screenshot for the settings that are working for me so far.
