  1. Upon consulting Purpleshark, I've come up with a slightly revised, or at least expanded system for us to use that allows us to also gauge the player's logic and reasoning, as well as their RP skills.
  2.
  3. Alright, so let's say we have Civilian John Doe, a very promising man who shows interest in joining TC. You think he's got the willingness to follow orders, but also a clear head on his shoulders. So, one day, you call him to the CNC, and sit him down. You introduce yourself, then give him the following questions.
  4.
  5. What is your name?
  6. Where are you from?
  7. Tell me about yourself.
  8. What do the machines want from us? What is SkyNET's goal?
  9. Why are you here?
  10. Why do you want to join TC?
  11.
  12. The key here is not only to make sure he's not a closet luddite, but also to gauge on his attitude, his willingness to cooperate, and any possible emotional issues. With this being done, if you don't detect any issues with the recruit, you take him outside, and direct him to a tree. Explain to him that he needs to climb up it, and within a few minutes. With this, you observe him, both IC and OOC. OOC consideration should be used, as it can tell wonders about his RP style, as well as his logic and problem-solving. He makes it up the tree with a hitch, and you congratulate him and award him with a recruit pin.
  13.
  14. Phase 1: Basic Training.
  15. Throughout this phase and the others, you have Rct. John Doe perform various tasks to keep himself busy and act generally useful, such as accompanying patrols, and taking watch duty (which should absolutely be required of *every* recruit at least once), during which they can passive.
  16.
  17. Also, during this period, he gets a medical exam, along with an infiltrator test. This should be preferably done as soon as possible, so you do it the day after you give him the pin.
  18.
  19. Now, John Doe's going to get his basic training done. This being, to start with, rifleman training. Every man a rifleman, the Marines say, and it applies here. Not only will they learn how to handle and operate a rifle if they have not done so already, but also infantry maneuvers, basic tactics, and how to survive in the wasteland.
  20.
  21. Additionally, when John Doe is not shooting or learning the principle of suppression, he's learning basic first aid from a medical specialist trainer, or explosives handling from a technical specialist. The expectation is that everyone in TC is able to perform basic jobs in the absence of higher-qualified specialists.
  22.
  23. Phase 2: Intermediate Training.
  24. You should be keeping track of who he works with the best, and what field he seems to be most interested in. At this point, you may want to ask him about it. In the meantime, his infantry training will continue, and you should continue to give him useful tasks as needed, while also keeping track of any times where he stands out, such as a particular deed that illustrates good character.
  25.
  26. One of the final tests that should be given is a survival scenario. The recruit is given a first-aid kit, a pistol with 3-rounds (or a shotgun with 3 slugs), and 3 planks of wood, with which they are intended to start a fire. They will need to survive the night, start a fire, and generally conserve their resources as they will not be sure how long they are staying out there.
  27.
  28. If he passes the survival test, he is most likely ready for Tech-Com.
  29.
  30.
  31. Phase 3: Entry.
  32. He's now ready to join TC, but where will he go? You've seen that he's shown an interest in being a support gunner, and seems to always work with Yankee. In that case, it's up to the squad leader to recruit him, and train him for his specialization as they see fit.
  33.
  34. Now, if he chooses to be a specialist, such as a medic, he is enrolled into the Medical Squad as a Medical Aide, and is put to work performing various tasks, while training for more advanced procedures. He can later gain Combat Medic certification, but I will discuss this later, once we set this in stone.
