As they were speaking, the battle by the canyon resumed. The Sage fired off bullets of light, which the giant blocked with its shield. The bullets glanced off it, scattering in random directions and erasing the surrounding mountain and cliff. The damage to the train must have been caused by those bullets.

The giant swung its sword down at the Sage. A weapon of that size must have been tremendously heavy, but the giant shaved off the surrounding mountain and cliff as if the blade weighed nothing at all.

And then the giant suddenly disappeared. As the mountain it had been clinging to collapsed, it reappeared on another nearby peak. Using its right arms, it pulled a rifle-like weapon from its back, firing off shots in quick succession. More mountains broke into pieces and huge gouts of water were blasted upwards from the river below.

The canyon had changed shape in the blink of an eye. Neither combatant was sparing a thought for their surroundings.

そんな こと を 言っ て いる うち に 賢者 たち が 再び 戦い はじめ て い た。 　 賢者 が 光 弾 を 放つ。 それ を 巨人 は 盾 で 受け て い た。 　 光 弾 は 盾 に 弾か れ て あら ぬ 方向 に 飛ん で いき、 周囲 の 山 や 崖 を 消し 飛ばし て いく。 どうやら、 あの 光 弾 が 汽車 を 半壊 さ せ た 正体 の よう だっ た。 　 巨人 が 剣 を 振り、 賢者 を 攻撃 する。 　 大き さから 考えれ ば その 剣 も 相当 な 重量 の はず だ が、 まるで 重 さを 感じ させ ない 動き で、 周囲 の 山 や 崖 を 削り取っ て いっ た。 　 そして、 巨人 は 唐突 に 消え た。 　 足場 に し て い た 山 が 崩壊 し、 向かい側 の 山頂 に その 姿 が 現れる。 　 巨人 は 右側 の 腕 で 背中 に 装着 さ れ て い た ライフル らしき 武器 を 取り出し、 連射 し た。 　 山 が 砕け、 川 からは 派手 に 水しぶき が 上がる。 峡谷 は 瞬く 間 に 形 を 変え つつ あっ た。 　 互いに 周囲 の こと など まるで 考え ては い ない の だろ う。
