  105. Bio: Grae Steelhart is the leader of the Steelhart Mercenary Band. Born a bastard to a noble father and a serving girl up in northern Morcia, Grae inherited nothing from his parentage and seeks everything to make up for it. His mother, Carita Steelhart, cared for him as best she could after being run out of the only home she'd known and her job, and worked herself to an early grave. Grae understood from a young age that hard work only works if you can apply it at the right place in the right time, and that a blade would make you rich much faster than a plow. He also learned young that it can all be lost in an instant, as his scarred face and milky white eye will attest. He was never discouraged, however, and through a combination of sanctioned government action rooting out bandit hideaways and delivering taxes from one lord to another by force, his renown grew.

  107. The Steelhart mercenaries are well known throughout Morcia, as much for their willingness to take jobs both fair and foul as their effectiveness. Where a Steelhart mercenary goes, he or she represents the company, and as such is expected to behave in accordance with the laws of the band. The first law is that when a deal is struck, Steelhart will endeavor to fulfill the contract to the best of their ability, come what may. The second law is that an employer who deals in bad faith will be plundered for the agreed price, plus incidentals determined by the mercenary in charge. The third law is to not do for free for which you might be paid.

  109. Each of these laws were codified by Steelhart, and each has a story behind it. Grae himself commands an immense body of respect, and a healthy amount of fear. The company numbers around fifty men and women, though usually most are on assignments in far flung corners of the world, either protecting merchants or assisting with local rebellions.

  111. Grae is confident, but not unduly, in both his business sense and battlefield capability. Those who know him best speak of his sharp with and jolly humor, but usually after praising his battle strength. He may be old now, but poor swordsmen die young. While it is often said of Steelhart and his mercenaries that they will do anything for money, this is not the case. Grae dislikes needless killing, and would sooner let his enemies escape with their lives, if not their weapons or dignity, and as such does not accept missions where the primary goal is slaughter except in the case of known criminals.
