- Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2 - differences between demo and full game
- --
- TO DO:
- look at old gaming magazines for screenshots to compare
- compare the US demo and US retail (don't bother if the differences are same as EU demo vs EU retail)
- compare the regional differences between the versions (don't bother if its just spelling)
- compare with the Nintendo 64 version

- verisons compared: Euro Demo 59 [SCED-02633] vs (E) [SLES-02908]
- --
- Main differences:
- * the demo (the EU demo, not the US demo) in involved with a competition
- * can only play Single Session, Multiplayer, and Park Editor
- * can only play as Tony Hawk or Chad Muska
- * can only play the Marseille stage
- * the only songs are Cyclone (by Dub Pistols) and Heavy Metal Winner (by Consumed)
- * the text for revolutions (180, 360, etc) are coloured differently than the trick name http://i.imgur.com/dqTDr1x.png
- * finishing the run with poor points tells you that you didn't make the cut for the passcode for the competition, unlike the retail that tells you your best combo
- * no updating save file
- * ending a game mode brings up a 'Coming Soon' teaser ad pic
- * the window in which trick names and gaps is displayed is narrower
- * gaps with a number in them have the number part coloured http://i.imgur.com/HS7hGZ7.png
- Main Menu:
- * can only select Single Session, Multiplayer, and Park Editor
- * the upper left corner says 'THPS 2 demo', as opposed to 'THPS 2 menu' in the final retail version
- * no demos play when left idle
- * when selecting Single Session, the screen darkens to a shadowed sepia tone with the words 'LOADING' in purple font; the retail version fades in a left-to-right diagonal transition
- Character Select:
- * Tony Hawk has different stats, the bio is a different colour, the photo use is different, the botton cues at the bottom are using placeholder graphics, the vert and goofy graphics coloured the same, the name of the skater uses a font that isn't as bold, Tony's clothes are brighter and he is facing a different direction
- demo: http://i.imgur.com/g4kXCTD.png
- retail: http://i.imgur.com/3BY11no.png
- * Chad Muska is much the same (too lazy to screenshot his)
- Level Select:
- * The Hangar is said to be set in Tadzhikistan, as opposed to Mullet Fall Mt http://i.imgur.com/z7YcyAp.png
- * can only select Marseille stage
- * the photo used is a stock image, unlike the retail version which uses a more appropriate picture of a skate park
- * the level preview is different as it doesn't get a vertical overview like in the retail
- demo: http://i.imgur.com/21kvWnL.png
- retail: http://i.imgur.com/JT46Wuy.png
- Level Loading:
- * the demo announces a competition, obviously removed in the final version of the game http://i.imgur.com/KkvKBNh.png
- Pause Menu:
- * the 'PAUSED' text is different http://i.imgur.com/FoIWBXM.png
- Marseille:
- * you start off on the edge of the starting ramp; in the retail you start at the bottom of it
- * the Spider-Man graphic isn't as bright
- * the 'bluetorch' banners were originally 'FUSIONCOM'
- * some gaps haven't been implemented yet, e.g. 'Crossbar Stomp'
- Secret Area:
- * the most notable difference has got to be the secret area. Going onto the grass and riding into a wooden support knocks a lamp post into a wall, revealing a hidden area.
- - in demo, the secret tunnels are fenced off and instead, five 500 bonus-points coins spawn (probably used from the first Tony Hawks)
- - the lamp post takes slightly longer to fall in the demo?
- - the lamp post is intact when it lands, rather than shattering into nothingness in the retail
- - the fence has a two signs on it saying Work In Progress, perhaps alluding to the tunnels being incomplete at that stage
- Park Editor:
- * can't save or load parks (obviously)
- * can't load a pre-made park
- * the pause menu has different text for menus
- * the pause menu in the demo isn't inside a shaded transparent box
- http://i.imgur.com/mDjtjMi.png
- * only 17 sets as opposed to 18
- * can't select floors, objects, interactive objects, and signs
- * the text is a lighter shade font
- * no usage meter
- * can only place 48 pieces (trying to freeze or change the value crashes the game)
- demo: http://i.imgur.com/JNNfKnd.png
- retail: http://i.imgur.com/eeok2OY.png
- * no starters (you always start your custom park directly in the center, the default)
- * no gaps tool
- * due to these missing objects, the set lists are different between demo and retail
- * objects in lists are different; demo starts off with singles, retail starts off in quads
- * the editor is zoomed in further than the retail
- * stairs lack the wooden stripes at the edges http://i.imgur.com/qYP84mT.png
- * slopes lack the darker stripes at the edges http://i.imgur.com/sBm0Uhs.png
- * pools take up more surface area space in the demo
- * can only set two themes in the demo; Power Plant and Industrial
- * the themes haven't been named yet; they are referred to as Theme One and Theme Two
- * the anarchy symbol on the doors of the Industrial theme is red; in the retail it is black
- --
- Previews differences:
- * pre-release photos still show the text colouring like the demo does http://i.imgur.com/uM6fp1Y.png

- EU demo vs US demo
- link to US demo: http://www.mediafire.com/?1kj2fz87l27171p
- (its a stand-alone demo, thanks LedIris from thps-mods.com)
- [SCED-02633] vs [SLUS-90086]
- Differences:
- * Both Tony Hawk and Chad Muska have slightly different stats.
- - Tony EU demo vs USA demo: http://i.imgur.com/gE4LH2j.png
- - Chad EU demo vs USA demo: http://i.imgur.com/HCsOQzn.png
- * The spinning preview of the map is faster in the US version
- * the loading screen is different for the US version, since it is not part of a competition http://i.imgur.com/fRTm3z8.png
- * the music is a bit slower on the US version? kinda sounds like it
