- GENERAL NOTES
- - This route is written for the 29+IV+ speed Mudkip. I consider this the minimum requisite speed because it requires only 12 extra speed EVs to outspeed Archie 2's Crobat (at +1), which is easily obtained by fighting one wild speed encounter (Zigzagoon, Taillow, Wingull, Skitty, Zubat, Electrike), Timmy, and obtaining route 114 Carbos. Note that with each IV point lower than 29IV, an additional 4 EVs are required (likewise, 30IV+ and 31IV+ require only 8EV and 4EV respectively).
- - Neutral-natured attack introduces ranges not normally present on the oft-preferred +attack Mudkip. Fighting Timmy is one way to slightly mitigate this, at least in the early game, by gaining an extra level on a few early fights.
- - Whether to use Hasty or Naive is close to call, but the former is recommended (and this route assumes it). This is because while -defense is worse in the early game, late desert candy (= L30 for Norman's first Slaking) allows you to live Facade x2 on most Hasty Mudkips anyway, and -spdef is worse on fights like May 2 and TnL (where it's highly beneficial to be able to survive a Solarbeam). Incidentally, Timmy provides nearly all the experience required to use this strat (a more complete discussion of desert candy strats, albeit in the context of the HP Fighting kips, can be found here: http://pastebin.com/pND1q0pP)
- - Following the above, fighting Timmy, considered heretofore an optional trainer, is something of a necessity.
- Below are some Mudkips which could utilize such strats*:

- * These notes assume that you are familiar with calibrating your own timing for the desired Mudkip. In general, the time from soft reset that it takes to reach a given Mudkip follows the form T = (F + 500)/60, where T is the time in seconds and F is the frame index associated with the Mudkip. This may require further calibration to perfect (generally +/- 1s).
- * These Mudkips were selected using a Python program I wrote that found Mudkips only with certain stat benchmarks. Specifically, in addition to having 20+IV attack and 29+IV speed, I also sorted for kips with 17+IV spatk, the minimum to guarantee the OHKO on Roxanne's Geodude.

- - NOTE: Not including Hiker Clark and Rustturf Grunt, you require 333 exp MINIMUM before leaving Granite Cave, so keep track as you go. You also require 1 wild speed EV before Brawly (as Route 110 second pass is the last place you can acquire it). Any "yolo" grass (i.e. grass you don't repel through) is meant towards those ends.
- - Take the bottom path, yoloing the grass up to the rotating Bug Catcher. If you encounter a Zigzagoon or Taillow and don't have one, catch it (Tackle once); otherwise, WG any encounters for the KO.
- - Run into Lass Janice from the left (manipulating her to look down), the walk up one tile and pause. Use a Repel and remove Oran Berry if necessary, then walk past her before running up to Hiker Clark (this is 100% consistent menu manipulation).

- RUSTBORO CITY
- - Mash through the long cutscene to obtain the Letter and the PokeNav. Exit the Devon building and run southward out of Rustboro and through Petalburg Woods to Mr. Briney's house.
