nickname: dew drop – it was her performance name. it originated from her first real performance for the town. it was held in the small valley nearby, early in the morning while the tall grass was still coated with a sheet of dew. she was covered in it by the time it was over. the fact that people claimed that she was as delicate as a dew drop on a flower is how the name stuck.

background: her family migrated from thailand to korea after her little sister died from the plague. it spread across the whole country, resulting in the majority of people to flee elsewhere.

growing up, her family was poorer than dirt. her father being a blacksmith brought money into the family, but it wasn't much, considering most of his works were bartered instead of commissioned. mai used to watch the street dancers from their dusty porch, her mouth half open in awe. she wanted to look as elegant and effortless as they did, bringing people happiness with their works.

an idea sparked in her head to work at the local dance shop, cleaning up messes and doing the dirty work, in exchange for dance lessons. she spent days and nights practicing as much as she could. her feet were calloused, they would bleed and she would nearly faint from exhaustion. when she got a bit of experience under her belt, she started to sell herself and her dancing for pleasurable favors to both women and men, in exchange for money to help her family.

soon, she became well known among the town and with 12 years of experience under her belt, she has managed to become one of the best dancers in their township. coins were thrown at her left and right when she danced in the streets, which caused her to grow greedy. people practically begged for her to perform at their events and functions. children tugged at her skirts, wanting to be just like her. being basically a jester and the best around, the king requested her for entertainment purposes and wouldn't settle for anyone else.

when she was younger, she actually was one of the most humble people you'd meet, but once she became good at her profession and money came rolling in, it all went to her head. sharing money with her family has become more of a tedious task, rather when she was so willing to give. she's also selfish with her feelings.

reason to ball: her specific reason for attending the ball was purely for the entertainment of others. more specifically, the prince. he didn't directly ask for her, but it was mandatory. she was to be put on display for all to see, whether she liked it or not.

how did you meet: she was dragged from dancing with the crowd to have a mandatory formal dance with the prince, orders from the king. everyone 'oooh'ed and 'ahhh'ed over them, but they were seething toward each other. she hated how stiff he was as they waltzed, he hated the fact that she's pleasured nearly every person in the kingdom, which meant he would never be anything special in her eyes. just another form of money to keep her alive. he despised the thought.

"don't get any ideas from this," he hissed under his breath as they glided across the freshly polished flooring.

mai let out a quiet, yet sinister chuckle as he spun her around. "trust me, oh royal one, the only idea i have in mind is how to get this horror erased from my memory later on." people began to whoop and holler, trying to form something more between them. "but, that doesn't mean other people won't get ideas."

he was suddenly ripped from her grip, stopping their dance and was pushed into a large chair. one that looked fit for a king. someone had grabbed her by the wrist and shoved her toward him, practically making her pounce on his lap. she sat on top of him, straddling his waist as they were now face to face.

the party goers started to cheer once again. the dancer and the prince looked each other in the eyes, pure disgust was evident, but she saw something glint in his for a split second before it vanished. "words from the wise: don't you get any ideas from this," she said as she thought out her choreography for her new task. "especially in your fantasy dreams." with those words, his fists clenched and she started her sensual performance.

interactions: — being the entertainment of the party, that's exactly what she was set on for the whole night. through the night, she worked her way to yoongi, having a casual waltz across the floor before the crowd pushed it to be something more. the prince was forced into a chair and she was shoved into his lap, giving him a dance he, nor the crowd, could forget.

— weeks later, she was asked back to the castle as entertainment for another event. they spotted each other from across the room, but said nothing and avoided each other, especially after their dance. when it came time for the feast, she unluckily was given the seat next to the prince. she almost stabbed him with the knife that was settled next to her plate.

— bumping into each other randomly in the town, such as the store or the library

— seeing each other at the townspeople's events, since she's the main entertainer and he's required to attend certain gatherings as part of his princely duties

♥ beginning: very cold, harsh and disregarding toward each other. they don't let the public see it, but when they're near each other, they grit their teeth and exchange harsh whispers so no one catches on. they don't exactly want anything to do with one another and do everything in their power to stay apart, but circumstances keep forcing them toward each other, whether they like it or not.

♣ middle: since they keep getting forced together, they have been forced to tolerate each other. even though, somewhere deep, deep down, they've always wanted to tolerate each other since they were both envious of what the other had. one night, he asks her to meet him at the fountain in the corner of the town. they share a deep talk and possibly a heated kiss or two.

— the fountain scene. they delve into a deep, heart to heart talk, discovering they're both envious of each other, wanting what the other has and secretly longing for one another.

— a scene with mai and the herald, spending the afternoon having lunch as they talk about how they relate so much, having to run to every person's beckoning call. jimin throwing his half eaten apple in frustration as he explains how he's tired of being taken for granted, especially by mai.

— her trying to harvest the prince's secrets from his best friend, the butler. he may or may not let a couple slip out into her possession.

— yoongi and her getting caught in his room. the situation is up to you. but, she winds up getting thrown out of the castle.

anything else: she grew up as childhood friends with the herald and they have a past together. he'd watch her dance when she still had little experience and he'd encourage her to chase her dreams. he gets jealous whenever she mentions the prince, but tries not to show it. having enough, tries to steal her away the next day after discovering them at the fountain the previous night, pulling her into an alley, kissing her up and down and trying to convince her to choose him instead.

message to me: i don't think i've ever been this hype for an af before. i'm super in love with this and thank you for using yoongi as the prince instead of someone who'd be more stereotypical. he's such the ideal type and is often overlooked. also, pls don't shoot me for choosing him as the love interest, i've just always been in love with the dancer!yoongi aesthetic so much, especially classical dance.
