- My thoughts as a feminist on:
- "Separate but equal" is never equal
- This is just Complementarianism
- This video seems like it's trying to reinforce gender roles
- Feminism's goal is to let anyone do what they want regardless of gender roles
- Feminism does not think that men can't be abused!
- Feminism does not think men can't get raped!
- This just isn't a thing
- I have never met or heard a feminist even hint at either of these things
- I'm not gonna make a blanket statement that no one has ever said these things, but to portray it as the mainstream feminist position is disingenuous at best and blatant lying at worst
- This is a straight up straw man argument
- Feminism will discuss how abuse of women is more prevalent (which is just statistics), it will not dismiss abuse of men
- In my experience a very common or even core value in Feminism is to not dismiss someone's personal experience
- An expectation that men don't bail on childcare is great, just like she's saying. Not to beleaguer the point, but again, this is something Feminism works toward (equal division of labor).
- I agree that from what I know our court system defers to mothers, this is really shitty
- Huh, I might have that wrong: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/cathy-meyer/dispelling-the-myth-of-ge_b_1617115.html
- In any case, the ideal is that gender should not play a role in the process
- Sexual assertiveness is not a lesser form of sexual aggression
- This seems like a dangerous idea
- As I see it sexual aggression isn't really concerned with consent while assertiveness is
- Yes rapists should be punished, men and women
- Violence against men is bad I agree. The ideal is that violence should not be tolerated between genders or anyone at all.
- Feminism is not trying to pit genders against each other, that's again just not a thing
- She keeps bringing up child support and "not consenting to having a child"
- If a man is deceived by a female partner into believing there is some form of birth control at play when there isn't, that's really fucked up, and should be illegal. I don't think that's a controversial view
- However, if a man has consensual sex with a woman without any deceit about birth control and that results in pregnancy. Then, for bodily autonomy reasons, it is solely the woman's choice whether to carry that pregnancy to term. In this case, the man has consented to having a child, because he knew the risk involved in having sex. In this case, child care payments are completely appropriate.
- I know one thing this brings up is that we need more male contraception. Again, something I've seen commonly come up in feminist discussions.
- Overall, I found that the video focused heavily on being anti-feminist while not having an accurate view of what feminism actually means. I heard a lot of strawman arguments. Since the literal definition of feminism is gender equality, that concerns me. Of the things that I agreed with in this video, I already see those ideals within feminism.
