Osprey and Yang: Prelude to Top 8

The next match went by relatively uninteresting for the twins to pay attention to that much. It was a close match between Blake's Akira and Pyra's Homura where the former managed to get one last Stab to wither Homura's Guts to the point where The Salamander couldn't do anything to attack with, Netting Blake and Akira the win. Next up was Ruby's Flora against Lie Ren's Ming-Tun which quickly disolved into something out of a Call Of Duty game where both monsters used the newly planted trees and rocks to hide among themselves as they traded Machine-Gun(Ming-Tun eating into her walnut and spitting a volley of seeds) against Mocchi-Bullets, series of concentrated energy shots from Flora's mouth.


After about 45 seconds, Flora managed to get a good Roll Attack and stalled the time out for Ruby to win. Even among the screaming crowd, Both twins was able to hear Summer's shout of joy as Ruby walk towards the dug out and to the twins. "Did you guys see that?!?" Ruby stand before them as she pets Flora with a smile. "That was soooo close, but we both managed to squeeze a win out!" "Good work." Yang smiles with approval. "Now I have to win my match...." Kyo was busy doing some sit-ups on the floor with Iori holding his feet down to help him. "Who are you fighting against?" Osprey asks while leaning against the wall with his eyes closed with Ruby answering for Yang. "Oh, she's fighting against Laurent! A classmate of mines from school."

"Is he a friend?" Yang quires with a raised eyebrow at Ruby who shakes her head. "Well, we aren't enemies for sure, but we haven't really hung out. Why?" Yang shrugs. "Was just curious, you seem to be popular with people from what I've seen." "Me?" Ruby place a hand on her chest with a  feigned shocked look "Popular? How could you tell? Was it the fact that I am the daughter of one of Ylisse's best trainers? where a lot of people didn't know me for who I am as a person and wanted to used me to be popular or cool themselves? A bunch of leeches they are?!"
The memories of her being popular in her school days made her quite sour before she sighs and shakes her head, Flora patting her thigh to console her as her siblings and their monsters stare at her. "Geez....didn't meant to upset you." Yang felt a pang of guilt building up in her as Ruby sit down next to her and rest her head on her hands.(edited)



"This may be surprising, but I didn't enjoyed my popularity in school.." Hearing this, Osprey crack an eye open and look down at Ruby who's continues. "As I said, most people didn't know Ruby Rose, the girl who can down a container of cookies within 14 seconds, the girl who loves all things Mocchi-related, who loves Horror movies..." She look at the arena with a scowl, the current match between a Hare named Nats and a Baku named Sleetbomb not being entertaining. "...No, all they cared about was being friends with the daughter of Taiyang and Summer Xiao-Long. The 'Prodigal Rose...' As I was called.."

"It was bad enough that I had to deal with my own levels of personal insecurities on whether I was worthy of being their daughter...but to be seen as just an accessory to others to boost their own rep.." She balls her hands to fists as she shakes with rage. "I felt nothing but internal rage at those scum.." Yang sees this and place an arm around her to calm her down, as Ruby breathe in and out and does so.. "I eventually met some real people who like me for who I am...Rhiannon, Edelgard, Blake, and even the Aegis sisters." She look around and see them in their own spots in the dug outs. Rhiannon staying away from Osprey while talking to Akuma. Edelgard near her as she watches her friend prep for a tough battle, Blake who's reading a book, no doubt feeling nervous for her own battle against Ruby. And Pyra sitting next to Mythra who's seems to be smiling widely to hide her own nervousness to fight Pyrrha.(edited)


"I'm happy to have met them." She smiles at Yang who smiles back in a more subdued manner as Osprey chuckles. "So..." Ruby tilts her head at Yang. "Have you guys made friends during your time at school?" "Nope." She casually replies as she look ahead to the arena. "Me and Osprey had each other and just each other. Everyone else was either too scared to approach us cause we're Branwens..." "...Or they were too dumb to realized that we're Branwens and tried to fight us." Osprey lean off of the wall and adjust his jacket. "One thing both me and Yang realized that people will judge us just based off of our last names and react accordingly."

The tone in his voice suggested that he didn't liked it, as Ruby thought. But sometimes it's hard to tell with her siblings due to how expressionless they can be. Well, at least Yang smiles more often at her..


"Over time, me and Yang just stop caring about people and only for ourselves, Mom, and Uncle Qrow. Hell, we didn't even considered becoming trainers until Mom talked to us about our careers..." He crosses his arms as the match inside of the arena is coming down to last hit. "We learned from her how fun monster battling can be...and decided to try it out." Ruby leans over to look at him. "And how did that turn out for you two?" She inquires as Osprey move his hand through his long hair. "Turned out better than we both expected.." He looks at Iori who smirks at him "I've gained a powerful friend who's lust for battles is something I secretly share." "So you DO like battling.." Osprey smirks at Ruby who smiles at him, knowing more about him as he nods at Yang. "So does Yang..." Yang checks her nails with the same smirk. "Well...Branwens tend to fight a lot..only natural that I too would crave for combat..." She glances at Kyo who, while not as scary as Iori's, sports the same smile. "Kyo here likes to compete, who am I to deny his right to be the best?"



While they were talking, the match before them ended with Sleetbomb the victor, leading Yang to stand up and yawn as she nods at Kyo who does the same as he stand up. "Looks like it's our turn to play..." She wave at her siblings. "See you all later." Both she and Kyo enter the arena to see a young red haired man with glasses wearing a wizard robe and a huge hat. Before him was a floating mask shaped vaguely like a sun with a flowing white cape with many designs at the bottom of it.

The stare that Yang was giving to the male was one that could had melt even the toughest Durahans. That stare of hers spoke levels of cruelty that which Laurent never believed could be reached. So when that bell rang and the first thing Kyo did was to swing a claw at Merlin's invisible body and yet struck blood out of it, he did what any reasonable person would had done and forfeited the match right there, saving Merlin's career as medical team came and escorted his Gali away much to Kyo's bewilderment.

She walk back to the dugout where Ruby looks amazed while Osprey was uninterested. "That..was..amazing..." "Meh, I've seen worse injuries..." Ruby ignored Osprey's claim as she walk over and crossed her arms at Yang with a smirk.


"Sooo....we both won our matches..." Yang raised an eyebrow at Ruby, wondering where she's going with this. "You know what this means?" "We face each other in the next round." "We fac--" Ruby frowns as she absorbs what Yang just said and pouts. "Awww...you ruined the moment.." Yang smirks and rubs Ruby's hair, knowing what she just did. "Of course..and as my baby sister, I won't go easy on you."

"Right, cause I wouldn't go easy on you either, Yang." Ruby gives her a serious look. "To be honest, I didn't exactly join this tourney JUST to be the Rank D rep....I knew that to get there, I would have to fight both of you guys eventually. And...I wanted to beat you both." Both twins listened to her before Osprey speaks up. "Well said...wouldn't be fun if you were to just give up.." He walks over and look down at her with a calm look. "If you beat Yang here, you have to beat me...can you do that?" "Pfft...who do you take me for?" Ruby and Flora flex a skinny arm together. "I'm not your average trainer...I'm the legendary trainer of legends!"

"How can you be the legendary trainer.." Yang asked as Kyo rubs his chin in thought with Yang raising an eyebrow. "If we never heard of you?" "Th-that's..." Ruby blushes from embarrassment before shaking her head and pointing at Yang.  "Sh-shut up! My legend have only been shown now! And I will not tolerate disrespect! Especially from you, big sister!!"

As Osprey watches Yang continues to tease Ruby, he gets a feeling that someone's staring at him before he look behind him and spots Rhiannon staring at him. Not with anger or hate, but with a determined look. As if she knew for a fact that he will be her toughest opponent. "(Something tells me that I can't take her lightly at all...)" "Iori..." His Zabel look at him, away from the sight of Yang holding back both Flora and Ruby away from her as they swing their arms comically at her, Flora being held in the air as a matter of fact. "...Let's stop holding back."
