- Anon's super basic mining guide for getting your Painite and mining the 500 tons for Selene Jean.
- 1. You only need a 3A collector in a small ship or 5A collector in a large ship. Don't stack collectors.
- a. collectors will explode if you have something targeted when you launch them.
- b. you can target the prospector or clear your target when you launch them and they will loiter and collect.
- c. you can stall your collectors by closing your cargo scoop, but they will run into each other.
- d. your mining laser damages collectors. don't shoot them.
- 2. You only need a Prospector controller maximum size 3A, but a 1A is really all you need. You can only mine one rock at a time.
- a. target a rock and launch the prospector, then target the prospector to get the readout once it lands and does its thing.
- b. prospectors self destruct if you have the max number deployed and launch another.
- 3. Get as large a refinery as your ship can hold up to 10 slots.
- 4. Don't worry about offensive weapons, just get mining lasers. Some ships need the powerplant engineered to run them all.
- a. turreted lasers mean you could theoretically mine 2 rocks at once with a co-pilot. no one has ever done this.
- b. get fixed lasers, or set your turrets to forward fire only.
- 5. Only mine Pristine Metallic Rings. Use this tool http://edtools.ddns.net/ be sure to buy the exploration data or carry a discovery scanner. You do not need a detailed surface scanner.
- 6. When you are in the system, find a RES and get close enough to it to see where in the ring it is.
- 7. Pick a spot just next to there and let the emergency stop pull you out of SC. It's only 1% damage if your ship doesn't have armor.
- 8. Depending on the Will of Braben, you should get one or two cops and a pirate to spawn with you.
- a. if the pirate starts shooting you because you already started mining, don't shoot back. Head for the cop.
- b. if the cop doesn't respond, you may need to high wake out and try again.
- c. the cop will pick up the aggro easily if you are close enough and don't shoot back.
- d. after the cops finish the first pirate you now have a pocket cop and can mine in peace. Just head in the cops direction as you mine.
- 9. Once you have a comfy mining spot, work towards the planet so you don't target the same rock twice.
- 10. If you have to travel between rocks with collectors deployed, keep your cargo scoop open and you won't accidentally out run them.
- 11. You want mostly stationary rocks with the 3 P's Platinum, Palladium, Painite. Anything with 10% or more should be targeted.
- 12. Mine a single rock until you get a depleted report from the prospector, if you have it targeted, you can see how much is left to mine.
- 13. Feel free to dump junk ore, or set the collector priority in the right panel to filter out what you don't want.
- 14. Or you can mine everything and make multiple trips to the station to maximize your profits.
- 15. Your ability to continue to mine is limited by how well you use your limpets and how lucky you are. If you find a bunch of junk rocks, jump back out and go to step 6 again.
